Sounds good, I am actually currently at the painting stage with a 1/48 Eurofighter, when did you have in mind for the build? I've a good few Russian birds to make still.

Oh, I just got the same kit last month and will be watching closely  :-)

You gonna go OOB  or full AM "bling"?

I would like to add a MiG-19 in 1/48 scale to my collection of Mikoyan-Gurevich aircraft.  Anyone have any suggestions for one or opinions?  Thanks, Gary.

Hey, Dean! Nothing fancy for the build, just whatever makes it shiny with red numbers. :-) Although it would be my first attempt at a NMF. What could go wrong?? Yikes.

The problem is that as usual, I'm waffling between the MiG and another big build, the Revell Ju 88A-1. Can't decide. Hm.

Theun--Nice! I wouldn't mind going full AM bling, but I actually can't find much aftermarket. I saw a cockpit set on eBay, but seems like the kit pit is already pretty nicely detailed. Other than that, Eduard has PE sets only for the 1/48 version. You find anything else?

I must admit that here in South Africa bling is very expensive and my limited modling budget rarely allows for it so I have to make do with scratchbuilding stuff. Sure it will never compare to resin stuff but the 19 had a relatively simple office and acording to the many reviews of this kit it actually is highly detailed, maybe just a set of PE harnasses will be needed.

As for NMF it is the easiest thing in the word to do . The most important thing is to have a flawless surface before painting, easy to do with a good set of sanding pads :-)

Personally I prefere Alclad stuff for ease of aplication, but there are so many others on the market.

I am leaning towards the Chinese AF markings myself, haven't done that before

Luckily, I got a little practice with Alclad with my last build (Flanker) so I wouldn't be going in totally cold.

I think the trickiest part would be picking the right Alclad shade. MiGs shouldn't look to chrome-y, I'm guessing.

I have found that airframe allu over gloss black gives a high shine, but then to tone it down with alclad semi matt.

It removes the mirror look but still gives "depth" to the paint.

PB- I say go for the MiG!!   As for the NMF- there's so many ways to show it that I guess it depends on how new or old you plan on making the aircraft.   From shiny, factory new to dead flat gray junkyard hulk, it's all good.

I look forward to seeing it here.

Thanks, guys! I'm leaning towards the MiG. :-)

As for the finish, I'm thinking it would be something in between full-on factory-new shiny and junkyard dull, maybe something like Theuns suggested.

Sounds good- you can always go nuts and paint each major panel slightly different (something I've wanted to try myself).

Speaking of MiGs...  I was wearing my MiG t-shirt in the Atlanta airport last year when some guy gave me a thumbs-up and said "they make good aircraft".

What should the theme be this time though? Migs again? Or something different? Also I have a LOT more free time so I will be able to stick to a deadline if there is one. I have been itching to make the Trumpeter 1/32 Mig 21MF I think Romanian Mig 21s are great because they're different, but I have an F-16, F-105, EA6B, HE-111, Mig-15, SU-27, Sea Vixen, and some others, not a very big stash at all but enough to keep me going for a good while, but I am absolutely willing to buy a new kit if we are all agreed on a GB and I have nothing for the theme. So what do you guys think? Shall we do it?

Hmm..   Russian stuff in other national colors?   I have enough decals to pull that off.

-Iranian or North Korean MiG-29

-Kazach Su-27

-N. Korean MiG-17

-??

MiG GB! I like it. I guess any national markings? But whatever you guys think.

This will be good for my motivation. Since I build only one kit a year, takes a while to get my confidence back up. Because there's apparently no aftermarket for this Trumpeter kit, this will have to be a strictly OOB build. Probably a good thing after the tons of AM I used on the Flanker, lol.

Speaking of, a guy on Some Other Forum just posted some beautiful pics of his MiG-29:

That's a sweet MiG-29 you linked to, PB.

I'm in with the Fulcrum if we decide on a MiG-specific GB.

Do you suppose that was the GWH kit? Well I am in for a MIG GB I have had the Mig 21 and 15 both Trumpeter 1/32 kits for too many years so I suppose it's time to open the box and make one of them. Or whichever type of GB I'm in.

I say we do a MiG-only GB...   there's enough of them, flown by so many different operators that it ought to be interesting.

A list of production aircraft (from wikipedia)

   MiG-1, 1940

   MiG-3, 1941

   MiG-9/I-300, 1946

   MiG-15, 1948

   MiG-17, 1953

   MiG-19, 1954, MiG's first supersonic fighter

   MiG-21, 1956, fighter aircraft

       Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 variants

   MiG-23, 1967 (third use of MiG-23 designation)

   MiG-25, 1965, interceptor fighter and recce/strike aircraft

   MiG-27, 1970, a ground-attack aircraft derived from the MiG-23

MiG-29, 1977, comparable to the US F-15 Eagle and F/A-18 Hornet

       MiG-29K

       MiG-29M

   MiG-31, 1975, interceptor fighter aircraft

   MiG-35, 2007, multi-role 4++ generation jet fighter

They also have a load of prototypes/experimentals that are interesting as well.

Works for me!

And I just realized last night that I have the Kitty Hawk MiG-25 that I bought last year. Hmmmmm! It's supposed to be inaccurate, but there is some aftermarket stuff available for it now.

And I have a bunch of Eduard MiG-21s. Gah. What to do, what to do.....

Dean, yeah, I'm assuming also that MiG-29 is the GWH kit.

Well PB as far as the Mig 25 being inaccurate I have seen it made and it looks spot on, it's probably too many people criticising for the fun of it,

Looks pretty good to me, though the guy who did make it shows where it needed corrected, here's a link and you can see for yourself, the kit is something I really want but cannot seem to find through any retailers in the UK not Hannants or even Amazon, I will find one though!

Ah! Yeah, I've seen this build, it's awesome. Thanks for link.

There's a guy over on another forum who seems to be a resident expert on the Foxbat. Here's his laundry list of problems with the kit:

That Kitty Hawk kit may be inaccurate, but someone sure made it look great.

Wow that guy is a bit of a killjoy, honestly it's a good looking representation in my eyes, perhaps he had a test shot? because if you look at the tails of the Mig that was built the bulges are in the correct places and no correction was made there, but I would say the intakes are really bare on the kit, I do have some photos somewhere on my laptop of the Mig 25 RB from when I was in Latvia last year if you need reference pictures if you're making the Mig 25, though Eduard has made a set for the intakes, they're literally filled with rivets. Anyway I'm going to make the Mig-21 if it's a Mig specific build, I don't know what Air force yet as I don't want to make Iraqi or Luftwaffe, it has to be Soviet Bloc for me. What about you guys?

It was PB's idea so I vote him, plus I was useless at restarting the last one lol.

I'll second that motion to nominate PB as Glorious Leader.

It's hard to restart something that has run its course.. no fault of yours.

I'd do a Mig GB.

Lol, what have I wrought??? Was this my idea? I don't even remember. :-)

I'll accept leadership with reluctance, only because I haven't led a GB before. What do I do?

And I still need to decide between the Foxbat and 19. Although I'm leaning towards the 19.

Hosting is easy, just start a thread, make up the rules/dates and keep the second page open for competed pix and roster :-)

That being said, when do we get the dates!? LOL

I will depending on the dates join in if I may with my 1/32 Trumpeter MiG 19

1. Start a new thread.

2. Make up rules.

I think I can do that. :-)

As for a start date, I'm thinking sometime in November? I'm still trying to decide between the MiG-19 and the Foxbat.

Pork,

Will this GB be for ANY Mig or just the 19 or 25?
