Question: Beaufighter decals
Posted by stoutfella on Sunday, October 12, 2014 8:36 PM

Greetings,

Has anyone used the kit decals for Tamiya's 1/48 Beaufighter? I'm doing a night fighter version and thinking of trying the Tamiya decals, which I generally avoid like the plague. Just wondering whether I dare take a chance. Thoughts?

Cheers,

Stoutfella

I don't know what tamiya decals are like, because I haven't made a tamiya kit for years, but from what I know, they are good

I'm completing a newer Spitty release and used the included Tamiya decals. I found them to be on the thick side and some refusing to conform to certain angles like the yellow leading wing stripes that had to be masked and sprayed. I had to use tons of Solvaset decal solution which is very strong and melts the decals down as if they were painted on.

Even though the decals eventually settled down and look ok,  I think next time I will go with aftermarket ones and suggest the same in your case.

I've had fairly good luck with Tamiya decals.  They are on the thick side, and I'd avoid them on more complex surfaces, but their color density is good and with enough Micro Dol they'll eventually behave!

Thanks, guys. I know that Tamiya decals are generally awful, and I usually avoid them. I just wondered if anyone had tried using these specific ones.

Cheers,
