LOL

I am so sorry Mike.  I must have read the other thread, and then read this one, and posted my answer here instead of there.

Please just go one and follow the thread without me,,,,,,,,,,,and since I am lost right now, following me is a very poor choice, lol

Rex,,,,,,,,wandering off to find the thread I thought I was in

Hello TarnShip.  I am not certain I follow what you are saying lol   My post was about Tamiya White Putty being too darn hard to sand when its dry (in my opinion)

Mike, I get what you are saying. But, there are plenty of different aircraft to model,,,,,,,,more than I have done or could get done in my remaining modeling time.

The part I wonder about is all that aftermarket conversion stuff, and fantastic decals.

There is a really good resin nose conversion to make an A-6B from a Fujimi kit, with two markings options from Mark at Wolfpak. I haven't seen a single one built anywhere on the web yet. Same for the Nuke aircraft on Wolfpak's Victor Alert sheet,,,,,,,I don't remember seeing any of those aircraft finished,,,even though the nukes are sold out, and haven't appeared on any internet model that I know of.

The list goes on and on, C-2, C-1, RF-9J, ,,,,,,,not even one of the EA-4F in either scale that the Nats sheets came in, and the Nats just went to that area again, 6 years later.

I know why I haven't got any of those things done yet,,,,,,,,I am still getting all the "regular" aircraft done that people have been skipping,,,,,,but, it seems that some of the people with 500+ finished models would have built some of those conversions, fancy decals or obscure weapons,,,,,,all of it sold out.

Oh well, back to my OOB Fujimi F-4M with XtraDecal special decals. (a person has to just love Blue to build this one, lol)

Try "Perfect Plastic Putty". You can get it on Amazon. Since I got a tube of it, I have thrown all the other puttys in the trash. It's water soluble, doesn't shrink and sands beautifully.

I've used Tamiya White as well and I have found that if I apply it, then let it set just until its dry to the touch and then sand it, I have better luck.  I too wet sand it when I use it.  I've also started using Vallejo acrylic putty that cleans up with water.  I does shrink a little, but not too bad.  Its really nice for those small gaps.

On the Bench:  Lots of unfinished projects!  Smile

I think I use the same stuff. I usually wet sand it, but I don't have as much problem as you seem to be having either way.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Hello modelers!  I am asking this question here just because this section gets so much traffic and I am currently working on a military aircraft.

Is it just me or is Tamiya White Putty extremely difficult to sand?  I masked along the fuselage joining seams and applied a thin(ish) layer (about the thickness of a piece of masking tape).  That was about 24 hours ago, and I have been working on sanding it for about an hour now -- the stuff feels like i'm sanding concrete!  I had to switch to 220 grit just to knock it down. 220 mars the surface so bad I have to spend so much time polishing it back to smooth.
