Question about the Hasegawa 1/48 F-14 assembly sequence
Posted by tomwatkins45 on Thursday, October 23, 2014 10:51 AM

I'm well into my first Hasegawa Tomcat in many years (Like 1988). I would like to mount the nose and cockpit assembly to the rear fuselage/ wing glove before tackling the intakes and nacelles. Will this cause more problems that normal with the intakes and nacelles? If so, I'll stick to Hasegawa's recommended assembly sequence.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

I debated the same thing when I was working on mine.  After a bunch of dry-fitting and staring off into space for long periods of time,  I ended up mounting the intakes first, then adding the forward fuselage.

That made it easier to deal with the intake seams, but I ended up distorting the front end of the main fuselage a bit.  That  affected how the forward fuselage lined up.  Nothing major, but it took some work to fix the fuselage seam.

Think it's one of the those "six of one, half dozen of the other" deals.  I love the Hasegawa kit, but its reputation as being "fiddly" to build is well-deserved.

Thanks for the info. I agree it's probably six of one, half dozen of the other. Not sure yet which way I'll go. I've got a bit yet to do before I have to decide.  I also agree that it is very fiddly, but it sure does look like a Tomcat. I think that will make it worth the effort.

Thanks again,

Tom
