Eduard aftermarket kit for the Hasegawa 1/48 Macchi Folgore

I will post a note when I'm through. So far, so good. It's not an especially tough kit to build but you do need patience with the PE stuff. Thanks for the advice to all.

Good idea; thanks very much for your thoughts. I will print out the larger instructions. As I said before, I am using a good many bits from the Big Ed kit so they will definitely enhance the results. And thank again to Nathan for your input.

This might help a little bit. One problem (for me anyway) with the Eduard instructions is that they are quite small. If you go to Eduard's website and type in the kit number (48163) it bring up the illustrations of the items included. It also gives you the opportunity to bring up the instructions as a pdf which you can print out full size on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. The large illustrations are a lot easier to understand.

Yeah there's lots of pe going on with that set. So much hardly any will be seen in the small Macchi cockpit. There's no other way to find canopy masks though. The mask set alone is out of production. Those flaps should be a nice add on though!

Thanks for your response. I do have the Big Ed set. I've already given up on the cockpit cage; however, I am using some parts of the cockpit kit in the OOB model. I will also use other bits and pieces from the Eduard kit--including flaps. I especially will need the canopy mask that came with the Big Ed set. As for value, I guess it's worth it when you consider how much time and effort you put into building a model to get it  just right. I think the PE parts I've used so far enhance the model--but I also think they could provide some better directions for their use.

I just sold my Macchi 205 Veltro on Ebay. I had the complete Big Ed Set because that was the only way for me to find canopy masks. I'll assume you are taking about set #48163.The eduard pe set is a full replacement for the cockpit, having you bend up new sidewall frames and everything. There are shaded areas on the instructions that have you remove certain kit parts. There is a legend key at the top. It also tells you what kit parts not to use, (in this case, kit part B15, the right sidewall, and use the proper pe parts. It looks like a fiddly set. I can also reccomend the SB Models Resin repalacement cockpit. Great detail and only a little pe to work with. That is if you want to throw more money at this kit...
