Thanks all,

The weathering was done before and after the decals were added. I tried to weather over the decals to try and have them blend in with the rest of the weathering.

Nice rescue!  One of my next builds is going to be a 1/48 HB F-14D that I'm planning on doing some major weathering on.  Hopefully it turns out as good as yours!

Good looking Dog!  And one dirty bird.

Did you weather the model before you applied the decals?  I know that lots of modelers prefer doing that, but it can make the stencils seem to stand out when the dirt would have covered or faded them.

It is a nit to pick, I know, but having been around lots of Navy birds, I tend to notice that stuff.

One thing I've tried is to weather the model, then apply a clean freshly painted spot over the weathering and applying the decal over the fresh spotted paint.  You see that often on Navy birds around squadron numbers, modex numbers or crew names on the canopy rails.  It is another thing to try.

Again nicely done and I can't see any sign of repairs you made. Impressive.

Ditto! Great re-build! Nicely weathered ghost grays. I love the low vis stuff. More Tomcats please!

Thanks, the plan is to build every color scheme that the 143 used. The academy kits that I have is their early color scheme.

It looks really good B1, and best of all it's a pukin' dog! Great job!

This is the fujimi 1/48 F-14 black bunny kit. It was originally finished in the VX-4 black bunny scheme until it took a leap of faith of the shelf (the shelf was bumped and it fell off) Well I could not bring myself to throw the kit into the spares bin so I over time rebuilt her. I am aware that is probably the worst f-14 ever made but I enjoy building any model kit from hawk to hasegawa.

I wish I would have taken pics of my work but this was a long drawn out in between other builds project. Besides learning alot and practicing for the day when I tackle the growing amount of academy tomcats in my stash I think this one turned out ok.
