This kit is on my wish list, so I'll be looking in on this frequently.

So far I really like this kit. The flaps and slats can be positioned down or up, which I really like. The detail is really superb. I be checking the fit tonight but I'm sure its top notch as well.

Here's a MiG 3 update. I attached the wings. I didn't go as well as I would have assumed it would. It is a three piece attachment. For some reason, Trumpeter has you install small forward wing root parts. Along with the fuselage and wing needing some trimming to get them to match up, the wing root parts add and extra amount of frustration. The result is an area that needs a lot more filling than I would have liked. So here it is, the build so far. After the filler dries I'll do some sanding and move on to the next steps.

Nice little Mig. Can't have enough VVS subjects on here. At least there isn't a whole lot of surface detail to worry about while your sanding, The real Mig 3 being mostly wood. I suspect the wing root inserts to be there for different variants?

Great start on a cool subject.  One of the few Russian fighter I find appealing.  I look forward to your progress...

Actually, there is quite a bit of detail at the wing roots, but you're correct, the rest of the wings are smooth. Also, you're probably correct about the front wing root parts being variant changes, I never thought of that,. I can understand why they would do that now. They are just slightly frustrating to get aligned properly.

I find it interesting that the cowling is made up of 4 different sections. The 2 sides and the top and bottom. Thankfully, the parts align along where the actual cowling was attached so there is not a noticeable seam.

Lawdog, thank you. The Mig 3 is also my favorite Russian fighter of WW2.

I am watching with interest as I have this kit slated for a GB later next year. Glad to see someone build a Soviet WWII fighter.

Here is my update, I thought I should show some progress. After I sand the stabilizer seams and install the spinner backing, it will be time to paint the underside light blue believe it or not. Beside the wing joint (which was probably my fault), this has been a very nice build. I would recommend this kit fro anyone wanting to build a MiG 3

Update, Got the white, red and light blue on. Next, I need to install landing gear, prop, flaps Etc., spray the future, install the decals, then weather. There's still a bit to go.

Looks great.  Nice pit work too.

Ok, now I've got all the fiddly bits on and ready for the future, decals, and weathering.

Looks really good. I can't wait to get mine started. That is a cool looking aircraft.

This is a very nice kit, and I would recommend it to anyone. It has a decent parts count, is very detailed, and comes with options for 3 different markings. My only caution is the wing attachment. Dry fit before gluing! The parts fit was superb with little to no flashing.

This is a really cool build.  I don't think I've seen an aircraft with externally mounted guns before, even the F-4 had a pod.

Those are bomb racks your seeing, 6 x 50kg.... I think. The kit had holes in the wings to accommodate them so I figured I'd put them on.

The only gun armament it had were 1 × 12.7 mm UBS machine gun and 2 × 7.62 mm ShKAS machine guns.

Not very formidable, in my humble opinion.

821 aircraft were built with one 12.7 mm UBK machine gun in a pod under each wing in mid-1941.

I like the streaks in the white wash.  I'm pretty sure those are rockets under the wing, but I could be wrong.  What shade of red did you use?

You know, I'll bet they are rockets. A website I was reading said the MiG 3 carried "2 × 100 kg (220 lb) bombs, 2 spray containers for chemicals, gas or flammable liquids or 6 × 82 mm RS-82 rockets."
The instructions didn't say and I just assumed they were bombs. Thanks.
The instructions said to use Insignia Red, so I did. The decal color match isn't quite right though.

I painted on a thick acrylic medium, then I sprinkled it with "Woodland Scenes" I think, snow, or something equivalent. I love using acrylic medium, you can pile it up as needed. The only draw back is drying time.your looking at about 48-72 hours for a base like mine. but you set it up and put it aside.
