Thanx for the feedback guys, I will get back with the mix I came up with as soon as I am ready to start the painting within the next week or two :-)

I put 34031 in iModelkit (iPhone app) and with Tamiya colors and it the recommends this ratio of colors:

XF74 (JGSDF Olive Drab) - 3 parts

XF1 (Flat Black) - 17 parts

XF2 (Flat White) - 2 parts

I can do the same thing for humbrol colors if you prefer, just let me know.

I've been doing the same, I've found the Tamiya weathering powders to be invaluable, particularly the one with the two sand tones.  If you opt to use them, it's easy to allow the darker color to show through by swiping with a water damp cotton swab or brush.

The Tamiya JGSDF olive drab is a good starting point for that... The color does weather substantially

Thanx. I have been loking at pix of helos in the desert and they are really faded ranging from OD to dark OD with touch up marks here and there, I think I might go for a well worn one and dirty it up a tad.

I'm working a longbow right now that I did in the MM U.S. Army Helo Drab, not sure of the FS # off the top of my head and I'm not home at the moment.  It's a really dark green that looks right to me.  I will say, you could attempt to preshade if you desire, but you likely wouldn't be able to see it.  I would recommend post-shading.

neither company makes helicopter drab in their paint line. Testors makes it in the MM line, as does xtracolor. Federal Standard # 34031

Guys, any idea what the FS codes (humbrol or tamiya enamels) might be for a US Army longbow , the allover green one?

Thanx
