I'm going to try to use a wash to highlight them as this is more of a painting testbed for my next project and I'm pretty burned out and scared that a pencil or especially a scribe will damage the paint

Col. are you planning to draw the panel lines back with a pencil, or re-scribe them by any chance?

The finish line is in sight! I have finished painting now comes the gloss coat for decals flat coat, weathering, then another coat, finished by the details installed! I like the hairspray a lot but I had trouble with the salt it didn't look right and I used a base coat diluted to tone down the effects, anyways here she is all worn down and war weary overall the sanding was worth is as the plane is extremely smooth and seamless Thanks for looking!

Hang in there, I fnished that kit back in November. Despite all the fit issues it does build up nicely.

I built that kit not so long ago. Yes, lots and lots of filler. All along the whole length of the fuselage and around most of the engine nasals, yuck. The canopy fit was pretty bad too. But, stick with it you can turn it into a gem. It's just a lot of work.

On the bench:

A lot !! And I mean A LOT!!

Do you know if this is the old Monogram mold, or the Revell mold?

Well I got most of the glass attached now which is nice.... The amount of filler is too damn high... I also finished the tail gunners canopy!

Hmm. I just bought this same kit before Christmas, Michaels Artmart 50% off coupon. It looks like a challenge. I'll keep an eye on this thread. Maybe I'll learn something...

Well, hold on! I see you have the superman tape, so I guess you'll be OK! :D I've had a similar problem with a Dragon 1/72 Lightning. What I can recommend to you is to do more dry-fitting, and then you can try sanding the mating surfaces, glueing a plastic shim here or there, or sometimes even bending a part slightly - tricks like that can drastically reduce the amount of filler that's necessary. On the plus side you have a very nice looking interior there. Good luck with your build and have a nice day

This model was to be my reintroduction after a long hiatus from the hobby and a simple build in anticipation for a very nice Hasegawa 1/48th F/A-18F and my focus wasn't going to be on panle lines this time just a smooth surface to try new painting techniques on and hopefully a great paint job at the end of it Well after going much further past my expected date of completion, my realization that this truly has become the worst model I've put up with. From the very beginning this model has been a beast of fit issues that have prolonged the build to the point of me having to force myself to work on it. My status right now ( I failed to take picturs through most of the sanding but just know that every piece that was attached has used copious amounts of super glue and Tamiya putty including both entrances on the belly, both engine bays as well as the front covers, the tail section, the front nose section, the bomb bay doors almost made me cry..) is that of final assembly of major parts in preparation for the first actual coats of paint in which I will start with a black spray for preshading followed by Model master metalizers on the front air surfaces, Hairspray then the first layer of OD and gray with more hairspray and the three layer technique from Doogs' blog followed by the salt technique for post shading then some detail paint followed then by final assembly and decals. here's what pictures I did take all straight on the bench with my galaxy s5 you can see that I actually succeeded with the hairspray technique on the propeller blades. But the constant sanding has really killed my motivation just the basic painting to get things started Front office assembled closed up these guys sucked smoothing and getting them installed all smooth and pretty oh my more sanding You can see here I didn't opt to just cut out masks for the front Cockpit yet I will do that after it is all smooth for now so much putty was lost on the cockpit and the front nose section below it after a week only 2 glass pieces in place and getting sanded in all the other glass pieces waiting their turn the wheels and tires ready to go with pastels and washes already in place as well as my first attempt on the canopy with only the masks in place... and the propellers using the hairspray technique I'm so excited about Thanks for looking! More progress Tomorrow Hopefully all the glass with be in place and getting fit in!
