Hi All,
I have no pics yet, I'm afraid, as I haven't even started (the kit is still in the post)! But I thought I'd kick off the thread because I'm in the planning stages, and I'd like advice.
I'm doing a "what if" style scheme on a Mig 3, but based on one of the red and white numbers. It seems like a rather impractical way to paint a warplane, but I think it looks fantastic. Here's an original shot, colorised by Massimo Tessitori :
A little bit of research (and advice in my other thread) reveals that these planes, when repaired, were left with haphazard paint schemes, as the panels were sometimes left "as is" or repainted hastily. When looking at a photo of Migs lined up together, you can see this lack of uniformity very clearly (again this photo is sourced from Massimo Tessitori's excellent site http://sovietwarplanes.com ).
So... just for fun, I am going to do a very eccentric scheme. The main feature will be a bare metal cowel, which I will foil (I always have lots of fun with foiling). I will probably also make a number of other panels clearly appear to be replaced, and the whole plane will have a very well-used look about it. I'm hoping, given the field maintenance, that it still appears pretty believable.
Here's my question: I'd like to come up with a few interesting Russian slogans which are emblazoned on the plane in red. I don't mind if they're a little funny or ironic. But I really don't know how to start investigating this. Any suggestions along those lines would be great. In fact any suggestions at this stage would be great, and I may well incorporate anything you leave here.
Cheers!
