Airfix 1/24 kits. Opinions ?

I believe the either the 1/24 AIRFIX Mosquito or Stuka may have been the most detailed kit of the series, prior to the Typhoon.

The majority of the 1/24 scale AIRFIX line were designed in the 1970s while the Typhoon kit is the product of modern CADD / CAM technology.

Most of the 1970s era kits were designed to accept an electric motor inside the inline engine components and AIRFIX still sells motors for the kits.

In short, no. Their other 1/24 kits are not as detailed as their typhoon.  The spit and P-51 do have retracts though! (maybe the 109 as well. I'm not sure).  But due to the nature of the retracts, the 51's landing gear is toy like in its stance.  The fit is also -- not the best; but as sated before, it was designed decades ago.    Their 1/24 Hurricane is my favorite. I personally think it is their most detailed bird, aside from the new Typhoone.   If you buy one of their older 1/24 scale kits, do not expect the quality of the new CAD Typhoon.  

P.S.  Their older kits also do not have overlapping panels and stressed metal effects.

So the newest Typhoon is the only one with the wing detail as well as, frame, engine and cockpit? I like the idea of stressed metal effects. I've never seen it on other kits in any scale.  

I own the Bf-109E, Ju-87B and P-51 D Mustang kits.

For some reason, AIRFIX decided not to detail the gear bays.

A Hurricane kit is the next on my list of must haves; I understand the Merlin engine is the most detailed Merlin included in the old, 1970s era AIRFIX 1/24 line.

The earlier kits are not as well detailed as the Typhoon.

OTOH....if enough folks buy the Typhoon, perhaps AIRFIX will tool up for new issues of their classics.

I have not seen the AIRFIX 1/24 Mosquito kit but would presume it may be another kit worth buying as it was designed perhaps a decade ago. I'd like to see the Merlin engine detail in that kit.

I can't coment on the other kits, I do have the 1/24 Ju-87 of Heller (Airfix re-box I believe) and the level of detail is really good, even by modern standards.

The plastic is a little "rough/pebly" but nothing to bad.

I would not mind getting my hands on the 1/24 Hurricaine!!

They all have full-engines, as well as cockpits.  The Hurricane features awesome wheels well detail as well as great gun bays (for example).  None of them have the wing detail that you like.    

Just do a quick Google image search of the kits and you will see all of their parts.
