1/48 Academy F-4J review
Posted by Radar phixer on Sunday, February 15, 2015 11:50 AM

I was just browsing and came across this review. First, I'd like to say what a beautiful job Darren did on the model. Secondly, I don't want to seem nit picky, but there are a couple of errors on his model. The cheek ECM antennas on the intakes are too long and are for the later "B"s and "N"s. The "turkey feathers", or exhaust cans extend too far from the rear of the plane. I can't tell from the photos whether they were the kit pats for the dash 8 engines, or the dash 10s installed on the F-4J/S aircraft. The dangers of trying to convert one model of F-4 to another.

Having said that Darren, you did an outstanding job! I worked on that plane, back in the day as an aviation fire control technician. Those markings originally were applied to the aircraft while assigned to VF-101. Shortly after the Tomcats were starting to be delivered, the Navy decided to split the Tomcat and Phantom communities apart, Tomcats being retained by VF-101 and the Phantoms being commissioned as VF171
