The 1/48 Revell F4U-5 is a rebox of the Hasegawa kit

Thanks, Mij, as the Revell boxings are sometimes not what they appear to be on the box so that is why I asked.

Oh just re-read your original post. The best -5 is the Hasegawa kit.

Revell's 1:48 F4U-4 is a -4B with 4 20mm cannons protruding from the wings LE. The mold dates from the 60s. It features a retractable landing gear that was a part of a fad for working parts that thankfully died out. The canopy frame is moulded as part of the fuselage halves so no option to have an open canopy. So between the 'working' landing gear and 'non-working' canopy I would look for a different kit. What variant are you looking to build?

The reason that I am asking is that Scalemates has it as a rebox of the previous -5 and -7. It would have the -5 cowling if it was.

Revell Kit  #5248 is an F4U-4.  Says it on the instructions but not on the box.  There is also a 1/48 85-5980 Monogram Pro Modeler F4U-5 / 5NL Corsair that you may have to pick up used

Is the kit a rebox of the 2006 F4U-5 or a true -4, or earlier -7? I want to build a VA-655 NAS Akron -5 for a friend of mine whose father started flying them in 1950-53.
