Just my 2 cents BUT I recently picked up a couple BF-109's in the Erick Hartmann markings. Revell Germany engineered this one really WELL it looks beutiful. Word I get is that it goes together very well.

I would have suggested the Mosquito because it's a easy build BUT the 109 should make life easier for you

I am partial as I am a BIG Erick Hartmann fan read all his books, have all the Robert Taylor prints signed by him. He was an awesome human being wanted to be a Doctor like his Dad but then came "The War".

I can't wait to get a little more experience working with my son and I plan to tackle that kit too!!

Best wishes!!

So much good stuff there! That new Spitfire Mk.IIa is supposed to be a nice kit as well.

If you have a Michael's near by, you can use their discount coupons to buy Revell kits. That could be a 40 to 55% discount and they generally carry F-15s.

Revell 1/96 USS Constitution - rigging

Revell 1/48 B-1B Lancer Prep and research

Trumpeter 1/350 USS Hornet CV-8 Prep and research

Eric, you did a great job on that Ryan!   I have that kit in the stash and you are right, it would make a nice change of pace build.  I hope Ford's plane can be repaired; I'm not that worried about him, lol.Wink

Gary, I didn't realize it could be done your way as well!  That actually looks a bit easier than my method.  I'm going to use your method from now on especially seeing as how it would save a step or two.

Yep, that's the Testor's Ryan.  It's a fun little build when you need a break from the "mega kits" in which we often get lost.  In fact, after I saw the pictures in my PB account, it made me want to go out and get another one to see if I can make that fuselage really nice and shiny.  As macabre as it sounds, the pics of Harrison Ford's crashed Ryan (as in the plane, not "Jack Ryan") provide some good detail shots especially of the highly-polished fuselage.

Eric

PS.  Rory, you now have two valid methods of posting pics.  So get posting!  LOL!

Cool plane Eric!  Testor's Ryan?

Rory, lot's of good advice coming your way.  I've posted hundred's of pics here and never used the
"insert image" method.  If you follow my directions, I think it's the easiest way to get them posted.  But, you can see that there are more ways to "skin a cat"!  We're looking forward to seeing your pictures regardless of which method you use.  Again, good luck!

Rory, as far as what aircraft you should build...

Of the models you have listed I've only built the Revell F-15E so thats the only one I can really comment on.  Its a great model to start out on I believe.  It goes together very well and has great detail.  But its not overly detailed or overly engineered like some of the 1/48 Hasegawa kits.

Plus, the paint is fairly straight forward since just about all F-15Es are painted Gunship Grey.  All you have to do really is decide how much weathering/fading you want to do.

The only drawback to the Revell F-15E is that they stopped including any bombs for some reason.  So you'll have to get some AM stuff if you want to load it up.

I don't think you'd have any problems with this kit.

Also, I see this kit regularly for around $20 on eBay.  For $20 this is a great deal!  This is one of the "best bang for your buck" kits out there.

Hi Rory!

I hope this will help.  As others have mentioned, Photobucket is a pretty good free site to use.  I'm sure there are several others out there but it's the one I use.  That being the case, I'll show you how to get your pictures from Photobucket onto the FSM forum.  When you follow the steps below, it might be helpful if you have your FSM session up as well as your Photobucket session up, too.

Step 1:  When you start a new post on the FSM forum, click on the "Insert Image" icon as circled below.

Step 2:  When you click on the icon, an "Insert Image" window will appear.  The area I've circled below in red is where you'll put the link to your picture in just a couple of seconds.

Step 3: Next, go to Photobucket and find the picture you wish to use.  Next to it, you'll see several links you could use (Email & IM, Direct, etc).  I use the "Direct" one.  When you click in that field, you should get a brief message that'll flash up saying "Copied".  If this doesn't happen, then simply highlight the code in the "Direct" field and copy it (Ctrl-C).

Step 4:  Go back to your FSM session and then paste the code into the field which I circled in Step 2 above.  Once you click the dark grey "Insert" button just below the code field, you'll see your picture pop into your post.  Just pay attention to where your cursor is as the time because that's where your picture will end up.

Ta-DAAAAA!

I hope this helps!  Let me know I need to explain stuff better.

Eric

Rory, I'm not sure if dropbox allows you to direct link files.  I'll second the photobucket recommendation, just be careful, if you move any photos in PB from one folder to another they will disappear on Finescale (the link you copy is a direct link to where the image is, PB creates the link based on what folder you have an image stored in).

Rory, if you open an account with Photobucket, it is almost fool-proof.  Believe me, if I can do it, anyone can.  After the pic is uploaded there, it literally takes less than a minute to post a pic.  Good luck!

I'd have to agree with Stik...109 or the F-15.  Of course I'd lean towards the Eagle!  Just sayin'!   Wink

Here's an alternate way to post your pictures:

First, start an account at a photo-hosting site; I use Photobucket. Then, upload your pics that you've saved to your computer. After they are uploaded, you'll see the thumbnail pics.

Under the thumbnail picture will be five choices.  You want to click on the one that says "IMG".  Once you do, the code will be high-lighted in blue.  Right click on that code and "copy".   Now, go to the post that you've started here and simply "paste" the code. You can check the post with the "Preview " feature and your pic should show there, as it will when you post your comments with "post".

I hope that helps!

Gary

btw-Just to double-check my own instructions, I followed them and here's the pic:

I would suggest the 1/32 Bf-109 as it is a newer mold kit and more likely to be a better engineered molding. The Strike Eagle is also a great choice. As far as posting photos here, you have to use the "use rich formatting" option. You copy the jpg address of the photo that you want to post, click on the photo icon and paste the jpg. address on the line there.

F-15E strike Eagle 1/48. These are the models I have so far they are all by revell. I would like to post some pics but cant see where on this forum I can do so. Only option is tags ?. Rory
