Hi jelliott523 thanks for the info, 1/48th scale seems to have the best of both worlds = great selection and a large enough working surfaces to make building a pleasure and not a chore, if that makes sense, I find the wwII era fighters size in 1/32 is about the same size as modern fighters in1/48th makes sense as they are much larger in the real world. But as you say pricing and available shelf space make 1/48 hard to beat. I dont think i would really enjoy 1/72nd as the parts seem so small but once i have a few builds under my belt I will give one a go. Thanks again this is a great tool for knowledge Rory

Rory, if you are just getting started....  a hobby store can be a drain on the pocket book!  Not saying that's a bad thing!  Wink  I find between online shopping sites, ebay and the local hobby stores, my wallet is consistently lighter.

In regards to scale, again this is just my preference, I prefer 1/48 primarily, I am building my first 1/32 Bf-109G-6 and love the amount of detail with it, but I don't have a lot of room for that scale.  I tried a few 1/72 and I just don't have a delicate enough touch for the small detail.  To me 1/48 seems to be a good middle-ground, as far as detail, cost of kits, and range of selection.

On the Bench:  Lots of unfinished projects!  Smile

Rory, The difference between Tamiya's 1/48th and Revel's 1/48th Jug is like night and day. I have built 30 of Tamiya's 1/48th Jug from Razorback, to the speedster "M" version. If your budget allows, stick with Tamiya. I would never again purchase even the "Promodeler" version from Revel/Monogram. To me the difference is that vast. So far in my opinion, Trumpeter manufactures the best in 1/32nd, Though they DO need to correct cockpit mis-takes. Good luck with all future builds. - Bob

I guess it boils down to a couple of determining factors. How good your hand/eye abilitites are and how much room you have to display the finished product.  I've built 1/72 for a long time because as GM said there is great variety in that scale.  But, as I got older and the eyes needed a LOT of help, and the hands shake quite a bit, I'm finishing up the ones I have and switching over to 1/48.  Don't have the room needed to display 1/32 unless I hang them from the ceiling and I just put up a new ceiling in the model room a few years ago and don't feel like putting any holes in it. So, I guess it's just "whatever you like".  It's your hobby.

Good Luck.  Enjoy.

Rory. I build 1/72 and 1/48. Don't have room for 1/32. I like both scales. 72 is great for the larger multi engine aircraft that would take up a ton of space in 48th.  But I have a lot of 72nd WWII fighters and such too. John

Well Tamiya is generally hard to beat, but lately Revell has had great kits. You really can't compare them, but the price tells you that. Frankly both are very worth it, and two jugs are better than one, right?

I model my airplanes in 1/72. For what its worth I like to be all in one scale, and the most variety by far is in that scale. But it's actually pretty difficult and takes Optics, tweezers and some real concentration. If you like WW2 fighters, there's a lot to be said for 1/32. They certainly look really impressive when finished.

You are making good choices.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Hello, Just wanted to thank you all for your input and time in helping me out . The info and guidance truly is appreciated from you all. Received my Vallejo WW11 allied paint set in the mail today Big Smile. I ordered Tamiya  P47D in 1/48th a few days ago will be interesting to see the difference between Tamiya and Revell. Another question for you all, 1/72 scale is this a good scale for learning or should i stay with 1/32 and 1/48th?. once again thank you all for the help.Rory.
