GMorrison, I had to laugh at your comment (but in the good way!).  I actually JUST got done building the huge Guillow's P-40 for my oldest daughter who wanted that hung up in her room.  My oldest is 11 and her 7 year old sister doesn't want to be outdone.  LOL!  So now she has asked for me to build a "big" airplane for her room now, too.  She already has a 1/48 B-17 hanging on her wall but now she wants another plane.

I've always liked the look of the B-58 whether the gear was up or down.  I just thought it would look need to have the gear up and the plane cranked in a hard turn as it swoops over her room.

Aggieman and Groot, it's good to know it's at least possible to button it up like that.  I'll definitely have to remember to reinforce the backs of the gear doors so they don't collapse back into the wells.  I remember back about 30 years ago when I was around 14 or so, I built the Testor's 1/72 B-58 with the gear up.  I just took a couple of pieces of Scotch tape and taped over the gear wells to close them up.  Then I slathered on gobs of silver paint with a brush to "blend it in".  Gah!  What was I thinking???

I am not familiar with the B-58  but have done Monogram F/A-18C's with the gear up and it isn't too bad as long as you put sprue across the open bays to back up the gear doors.  Also, again not familiar, if the fit is off and the gear door is smooth, you can easily replace it with a piece of styrene cut a little larger as needed for that door panel.  When the paint goes on you can't tell anyway.  Where it gets fun is when you have to carve molded doors off or curve pieces, but even that isn't too bad if you use thick styrene.

Gear down ok too.

Hey why not build a balsa glider or such, with her.

I built a Tamiya 1/48 Beaufighter with Katherine because her grandpa moms side flew it, she has it still.

My brother in kaw dropped it, she fixed it up.

I did this several years ago.  The fit wasn't the greatest but I managed to get the gear doors mostly lined up correctly.

Hi everyone!  Like the thread title says, has anyone ever built the Monogram 1/48 B-58 with the gear up?  I was wondering how easy it might be to do so.  I was thinking of building one with the gear up to hang in my daughter's room.  She said she wanted a "big plane" in her room and this is the biggest one I have in my stash.

Thanks!

Eric
