Yep, now I'm looking at some in-theater OD aircraft photos, and they are of a different 17G also named SSB. Same name, different cartoon. At least one B-24 too.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

I found a couple of period pics of it in NMF. As rich said, when you look at pic 15 in his link, it says it was painted OD during the restoration.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

The planes originally came off the line OD over gray, then later in the war they discontinued the camouflage for reduced weight and aerodynamics. Many crews later in the war would actually strip the camouflage for these reasons. That being said, for this particular aircraft it would have been OD in the beginning and bare metal toward the end.

I see photos that show it both ways in service.

If so, it would have most probably been OD/NG first.

A couple general things- you know private collection aircraft very often are painted up to look like another airplane. This is a museum though, and certainly seems to really be 42-32076.

There were apparently quite a few different aircraft named SSB, or SSSB.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Photos of the one at the Air Force Museum is shown with olive drab/neutral gray camo and Squadron/Signal's B-17 in Color illustrate it in NMF. I am planning to build one in 1/72 and I do not know which one is correct. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks!
