Nice build. Too bad those peregrine engines were so much trouble. The whirlwind would have been a great plane with better engines
Outstanding build! The paint and weathering is gorgeous. I love how you handled the leading edges
Very well done, Grant. Always enjoy seeing your builds!
Cheers Bob, no doubt there will be after market gear for this one, but it builds ok out of the box.
Grant, Excellent work, you built a real beauty. I've got 2 of these and hope too make a start on the first before the summer. I agree the kit is a bit sparse and could use a lot more detail. That obviously, did not hold you back. - Bob
Hi all, just finished off this build. OOB except for scratch built harnesses and some lead wire on the landing gear. A basic kit but kudos to Trumpeter for making different subjects, especially a 1/48 Whirlwind. The kit goes together well, decals set really good except some are out of register.
In August 1941 the Whirlwinds had their Brown upperworks replaced with Sea Grey, while the lower was now in Medium Sea Grey. Many Whirlwinds were presentation aircraft and P7116 was one of these, being named 'Bellows Argentina No.2'. Other markings shown are the Squadron Commander's pennant and a lucky cloverleaf. Paints used- main camo - Tamiya and Italeri, other paints used - Vallejo, Mr Metalizers.Klear for gloss coatsVallejo Polyurethane Matte varnish for final coatFlory Dark Dirt washEZ line for antanna
