Toshi,

The plane is painted with Testors' metalizer in a rattle can. I sealed the metalizer with Testors' metalizer sealer.   I used Testors' Createfx black acrylic wash. The wash was applied with a brush and immediately removed with a paper towel that was damp with acrylic thinner. The paper towel was folded into a stiff pad and was lightly drawn across the model. When I first tried the wash I followed the instructions that were on the bottle which states that the wash should be allowed to dry before removing it. That did not work for me. It was almost impossible to remove the wash after it dried. SO now I remove the wash immediately after it is applied.

John

After all those years you sure hit the ground running.  Really nice job on the plane and the car.

To Johnny Kay,

The aircraft you built is a beautiful masterpiece.  I like how you did not overdo the weathering.  Keep up the fantastic work!  Congratulations.

Thanks to everyone on this forum for the great tips and techniques. I have been reading this magazine for years, but did not have the time to build a model until  I retired last year. I am also into building model cars. This photo is of my 1/12 scale Ford GT40 MK II

Well, I must critique that you haven't lost a beat in 50 years. The F-84 looks great.Beer

Very nice.  The bare metal finish is great, and the panel lines are just right.

Very nice job.  My 1st model in 50 years sits hidden in the back of the shelf, afraid to be seen.  LOL

Thanks guys,

I wanted the finish to look like it's been around a while. I didn't want it ti look super shiney. However, I am not sure that it is possible to make Testor's Metalizers to look real shiney.

This is the first model airplane that I have built in 50 years. It is the Revell F-84G. The model has nice recessed panel lines. It was an easy build except for the cockpit. I just could not get it to fit properly. It is a bit crooked, except that it is not noticeable when the canopy is installed. The way the front landing gear attaches to the wheel well is really a poor design. I reinforced the joint with a piece of spur. Also, the the way the bombe attach to the wings is a poor design. I reinforced the attachment with a small piece of paper clip. I used a couple shades of Tetsors Metalizer rattle can paints and weathered the airplane with Testors' black acrylic weathering paint.
