                        Had the chance to spray the base coat using Alclad's airframe aluminum. So far so good, still deciding on spraying aluminum or not.  Please let  me know what you think.

                        Yes that's exactly what you would do.  The advantage is that it nice and thick and hard(ish) plastic so you have a good edge to follow.  If even doubled it on occasion.  One of these days I want to try 1 strip on each side of the line so no chance of the scriber wandering in one of the those places where that will really do damage to some near by stuff.
                         

                         

                        The down side is that it is the definition of not flexible in that if you need a curve... ya gotta cut it.  I use a hole punch if I have the right size to make circular scribes.

                        I am forever amazed at how the really good tips come out after I've felt I've mucked up the model! Crying 

                        I'm sure it will be fine, but I am going to look into the dymo tape.  I was using regaular tape with less than spectacular results.  In regards to using the dymo tape, do you use it just as a guide with a scribe tool?

                        1st thing you have to do is stand back, hold your hand toward the model in a threatening way and say, "You must submit to my will!"  Maybe it will work for you... hasn't yet for me. Whistling That's why I am also in the Dymo tape camp.

                        The same thing happened to me when I built my NMF P-51D. Had to rescribe the whole kit. That was a learning experience. I've grown to love Dymo tape to guide my lines and a sharp awl to scribe with. I never could get the hang of those scribe tools. Lots of scribing and sanding later I am pleased with the results. Hang in there, and take your time: it is worth it in the end.

                        Looking good Mustang! I'm watching this to see what you do. I have a couple Academy Mig-21's in my stash that I'd like to start soon.

                        As for rescribing, never have tried to to any major extent. What little I have done, I did not enjoy, maybe there is a better scribing tool out there than what I have.

                        First time scribing, and it sucks.  Just thought I should add that. :)  Looks worse than what it actually is, but since I lost the raised detail on the top of the wings, had to scribe the panels for painting.  Will sand down and repaint the top blalck coat soon.

                        Worked on some of the issues from the last set of pictures.  Might have to sand down the raised panel lines and rescribe due to lost detail.

                        Actually not bad in regards to putty. It looked better once I took the tape off since most of the putty was on the tape. Quick little update, spraying the nose cone green then I will be masking it in preparation for the NMF. Black undercoat then the Alclad.

                        Great looking MiG, Mustang! I love those Soviet jets that just look plain mean. Something about jets of that era, whether MiGs, Sukhois, Phantoms or many others, they just look incredibly warlike.

                        Can't wait to see it as you progress.

                        Back at it now!  Primed it with Tamiya white primer.  yes it is white, no idea why it shows up as gray in the photos.  Have to take care of some runs from where I sprayed, but overall I am happy with how it is coming along.   As for the drop tank... that is a whole other story.

                        Following this one for sure. You're doing a fine yeoman's job on this kit.  My Monogram B-26 fits up similar to this one.
