$3 aircraft

Ollies Bargain Outlet stores are known to stock old Lindbergh kits all the time. In fact my local Ollie's store has a couple of rebox amt aircraft kits - F4-U Corasair and the Hawker Tempest in 1/48 scale. I may grab the Tempest soon.

Testors, like Williams bros or Glencoe kits, are useful because they cover rarer subjects no one else wants to do.  The Meteor is an old kit, very basic, but you can add cockpit details and structure to make it more detailed, and add a more detailed resin engine.  The results can be pretty good.

I confess to being a fan of Lindberg kits despite many being very basic. Their line of 1/72 scale World War 2 aircraft models from the mid-1960's were well done and in some cases better than the Revell line of kits during the same period. They did subjects that were unique at the time like the German HS-129, Arado 234 jet bomber, FW-190 Dora and others.

It's just a canvas, but it can be saved.  Reshaping the cowl was a bit of work.  Here's a picture and a link to my build log.

But how can you go wrong for $3.?Experiment, scratch build, rescribe, looks to tons of fun for very little money.

Lindberg kits are "old school", especially when compared to what we get these days.

Most everything about them is, at the very least, a bit clunky and quite basic. If you're lucky, the pilot figure...er, I mean "shape"...will be separate from the seat. That's typically the extent of the cockpit detail.
