1/72 Space Shuttle Orbiter to the Museum
Posted by Hodakamax on Monday, May 29, 2017 2:06 PM

A Revell 1/72 Space Shuttle Orbiter doesn't really fall under Aircraft. Well, kinda. It does have wings and lands as aircraft do. It will go in my Aircraft Museum. I've got a W.I.P. going on under the Space heading and thought maybe I should report in to my Aircraft friends.

Space Shuttles have always fascinated me from day one. This is the third version I've built through the years. I found this one at the last model show for $15. The seller also had the 1/72 stack with tank and boosters which was way too big for my limited display space. I do have a 1/200 version that demonstrates the tank/booster/orbiter well.

I'll hopefully be back soon to the Aircraft world with an intimidating (for me) 1/48 Phantom build or maybe a 1/48 NASA F-104 that I'm still trying to find decals for.

This Shuttle thing is big (21 inches long!) and basic but is turning into a fun project. You could scratch build on this thing forever as a real shuttle is complicated beyond belief!

That's my report to the Aircraft Gang, back soon!

Just a quick update on the shuttle project for my Aircraft friends. Again the W.I.P. is under Space. Things are moving slowly but we're getting there. I'm trying to weather this thing to look post re-entry. All new to me. Fortunately there are lots of pictures online of fresh cooked orbiters to choose from. All this study on Space Shuttles has made me a wealth of useless information as my wife says, lol! All fun, good project.  Geeked

Ps--I am having fun putting the little astronaut in all the pictures in the inspector role, lol.

1/72 makes that a managable size. I may have to pick one up. It is looking very good.

For my Aircraft friends! The Shuttle is done. Ready for launch! Photos below in Space topic. Kind of an aircraft but really an incredible space ship. This is the model that jumped in front of the F-4C. I'll try to get back to my Aircraft friends with the Phantom project soon!

Hey everyone! Thanks for the comments here and on the Space Forum. The Orbiter has been moved to its new home on the Space shelf of Max's Aircraft Museum which is really just my office. Yikes, measuring 21" long, this thing is big but sqeezed in with some re-arrangement of the Space area. Check it out!  Geeked

Looks awesome Max!

Another thing I need to build, I haven't built a shuttle since the early '80s when it was all spanking new.
