Hi BV. As a matter of fact, I have one of the new Tamiya cats in the stash for a future comission very soon as an Iranian cat.

From the reviews I have read and looking at the kit , the Tamiya looks to be better detailed and less complex to build compared to the over engineered Hasegawa. The Hasegawa's air intakes and the forward to rear fuselage fit needs lots of attention.

No weapons are included where the Tamiya kit provides them. The parts fit and surface detail is also better than Hasegawa's. Would love to see Tamiya produce a Bobcat and a Super Tomcat with tons of weapons as future releases.

The marbling effect can be applied to just about anything, jets, prop planes, armor and even ships and subs. I'm in the process of finishing a Spitfire Mk.IX for the RAF GB and it too got the marbling effect. I also recently completed a Gato sub in Measure 9 scheme for the Sub GB and it too got some marbling to break up the monotone black paint. IMO it breaks up colors and offers subtle tonal changes in the finish.

If you want more weathering,from my time on USS Eisenhower i noticed on the tomcat the yellow ejection seat stickers leading edge were a little toasted from going supersonic.

I never built a jet plane and i see that it's very difficult get the exact tones and this "mapping" efects in the paint work. Welldone! Congrats!!!

The swing wing area grime is a combination of marbling pre shading, top coat sprayed at semi-circled manner and pigments rubbed into the flat finish to further dirty up the area in that circular fashion. Some Tomcats got really dirty but I rather keep things less than more.

That's just an excellent job, looks more real than a real one. As I look at the part of the wings that fit in the fuselage cuffs when swept, I detect that you painted those wear marks, am I right?? If so, you're a very clever sort to figure that out and do it, I see those scuffs on the real Cat's.
