Looking For After Market Propeller For an Early Hurricane MKI
Posted by Zar on Sunday, August 13, 2017 10:28 PM

Does anyone know if the two bladed Wats propeler is available as an aftermarket purchase? The new Airfix Spitfire comes with one but not the new Hurricane. The only Hurricane kit I know of that has it is the Classic Airframes, however I have no desire to work with resin parts and vacuform canopies.  I would appreciate any input.  Thanks.

Gray Matter looks to be 1/32 and 1/24 scale stuff... if there is gonna be any AM two blade propellers out there, they will likely be resin.

Now I am curious, seeing how the early Spitfire and Hurricane both used early Merlins, did they use the same propellor as well? Both later used DeHaviland and Rotol props to replace the two blade fixed props.  Worst case, get an Airfix Spitfire and use the two bladed prop on your Hurricane.

Thanks guys for responding. The resin part looks interesting but no description and I wonder if it would fit all 1/48 Hurricane brands?

I'm currently building the new Airfix Spitfire and am planning to use the two bladed prop for it.   I have some thinking to do!

Stik, I think they both used Watts wooden props, but I wouldn't know if they were pitched the same.  Spinners were different, of course.

Yes, after I posted that, I went back and looked at photos of the two types. Big difference in spinners. The pitch I imagine would be the same. But length and shape? Hard to tell.

You might have to alter the wings to the fabric type if you want to backdate to the two bladed Watts propeller.  That's why the Airfix kit does not include the option, as it is the metal winged Hurricane.

Yes, I should have mentioned that.  The Classic Airframes kit may be the only kit with those wings, but I'm thinking there may have been aftermarket wings but I can't really remember.
