Wonderful finish on your jug!

And, Ah yes, childhood .. Telephones had dials when I was about 13 or so. That was 1956 and Aurora, Revell and I were just getting aquainted. About 1963 buttons were on the phone instead of dials. 10 years later came the first mobile phone (1973). Ten years after that came the first cell phone. Now our smart phones are a distraction with which I'm not really enamored. Just chalk up these rambling thoughts to my aged gray matter.

Thank you so very much 1943Mike!  I remember Saturday morning cartoons, it starts at 5:00am with the Star-Spangled Banner, then we’d watch the Bugs Bunny and Roadrunner show.  We have breakfast between 6:00am and 7:00am then watch the Superfriends hour followed by Scooby Doo.  By noon we were on our bikes fishing in one of the streams by our house.  Then it was off to College Pharmacy to go and see a Monogram or Revell kit.

I remember Saturday morning cartoons as well; of course my favorite ones were always the Warner Bros. cartoons. As Calvin (of "Calvin and Hobbes") once put it, "Idiots, explosives, and falling anvils!"

Hi Jim Barton,

I remember Warner Bros. very fondly. I think it was also called “Looney Tunes”!  lol!  Those were the days, not this 24/7 Cartoon Network where everything is computer generated.  I miss the old school Cell Hand Drawn productions.  But that’s just me.

Mr. Toshi,

Absolutely wonderful job sir. Everything looks great!! I can't wait until your next WiP.

I love the NFL RedZone, A MUST HAVE!!

To Mr. and Mrs. Hunter,

Thank you for such kind words, I try my best to utilize builds like yours as well as forum members as templates to try to emulate members builds.  I have nothing but respect and awe at what I see.

I’ll be starting my next build in a few minutes.  As usual a WIP will be created.  Thank you so much for your interest in my WIP.  I am most greatful.

And yes, I agree!  NFL Red Zone is; “A MUST HAVE”!  My favorite thing to do is to watch NFL Red Zone as well as NFL Sunday Ticket while building my kits and to have Mrs. Toshi by my side.  This is what heaven is to me!

Greatmaker

Great looking Thunderbolt Toshi! Love the NMF.  I built this kit awhile ago and it was one of my first NMF.  I really wasn't happy with how mine turned out so I bought another one.  Someday I'll give it another go and I hope it looks half as good as yours does.  Congrates on a great build

Thank you Greatmaker!  At first I was not sure of the NMF that Mrs. Toshi picked out.  It was a Metallic color for an AMC car.  Remember that car company?  lol!  Everyone liked it so I ran with it.

As for your next attempt with the Pro-modeler 1/48 P-47 Thunderbolt, I hope you do a WIP so we can see your fantastic work.  Please sir, I know for a fact that your build will far supersede my Thunderbolt.

I want to personally extend a thank you to you for your support in my P-47 build.  I greatly appreciate it.  When you speak of the accolades on my build, I am most embarrassed and humbled at the same time as I don’t think it’s that good.  At least no where in comparison to what’s posted here on FSM Forum.

Thank you Gamera!  Thanks to you and several forum members giving me tips and posting their works like BrandonK, Jeaton01, and of course yourself, I was able to reasonably assemble this kit and paint the colors in a acceptable manner.

Mrs. Toshi is Godzilla to your Gamera! lol!  Now we will see how her Photon Radiation treatment will affect her.  I’m sure she’ll be fine.  Doo mo arigatoo gozaimasu Gamerasan.  Itsu demo shitsurei onegaishimasu.  Totemo yoroconde desu.  Onegaishimasu.

To my fellow forum members,

This build went together perfectly!  Oh, sure there’s the ubiquitous Model Master Monogram/Revell Deep Grand Canyon gaps, the very odd landing gear assembly engineering status, and the simplicity of it all.  But that’s what makes it all the more fun!

Sure it’s no Tamiya or Hasegawa but at $10.00, who can complain!  lol!  It’s definately just a fun build overall.  I think my most favorite part was hand painting the Thunderbolt.  Oh yes, and   using a rattle can.  This brought me back to my childhood.  A simpler and carefree time where a cell phone (Smart) was non-exsistent and the TV ended at mid-night with the Star Spangled Banner!

Hello Mr. Toshi,

It has been awhile my friend. Your build is absolutely amazing...everything looks great. You have advanced so much since you strated...I am not surprised. Be well my friend, and enjoy the remainder of the build.

P.S. - I hope Mrs. Toshi is doing well and remains well during her treatments.

That’s quite alright, life brings many turns of events like a roller coaster ride.  How are you and Mrs. Hunter doing?  I wish only the best for the both of you.

Thank you for the compliments!  Your words of praise are too kind.  I am most humbled.  Last night I worked wee into the night to complete the main decals.  I’ll post a link to Flickr here very soon.

As for enjoying the build, I’ve recently built a couple of 1/32 high end $50.00 to $100.00 kits.  A Corsair and a Kingfisher, I actually am excited as well as ecstatic about this build.  I just don’t know.  lol!  Such a simple little 1/48 $10.00 build would make me feel this way.  This is so great!!!

For now, Mrs. Toshi is doing extremely well and is being positive in her upcoming Photon Radiation therapy.  The first trial run will be on October 19th.  We were told that the Photon treatment machine is one of the first ones here at University Hospitals in Cleveland.  The other Photon is in Columbus.  This is a new type of therapy.

Thank you so much Hunter for the inquiry.  I most appreciate it!  You’re a good friend!

Toshi

Toshi,

Thank you very much for your kind words for Jill and I. We are doing better each day. We will keep Mrs. Toshi in our thoughts on Oct. 19th and thereafter. It sounds like Mrs. Toshi is one tough cookie...a true fighter.

I went back and looked at both the Corsair and Kingfisher and they are outstanding. Each one is well detailed, and look amazing. It a pleasure and a honor being your friend sir!

Mrs. Toshi is not an individual you’d like to mess with.  lol!  lol!  I just say yes, yes, and yes.  And everything is my fault.  That way I get to build my models and watch Sunday, Monday, and Thursday night NFL.  Especially on Sunday, I get to watch NFL Red Zone!

Thank you so much for going back and visiting my past threads of my builds.  I’m shocked that you would do that.  I’m most humbled.  I sir am also most honored that I have such a great repoire and a lasting friendship with you and Mrs. Hunter!  Once again, thank you!

jeaton01, these simple words coming from you are very humbling.  I thank you so very much.  It looks sharp as I was honored and abled to use your build as a template.  I’m just a copy cat.  lol!

P.S.  Why is there a chicken/rooster as a decal on the side of the fueselauge? What does this symbolize?  Thank you in advance.

The following link to Flickr is not the same photos as prior to this link.  The prior link were photos of the decals not sealed in with clear lacquer.

These photos here below (Link) is the Thunderbolt sprayed with Testors Clear Coat Spray Lacquer.  After the clear coat dried, I hand painted the OD anti-glare with Model Master Acrylic Flat Clear #4636 to dull the clear coat in just that area.

My next step is to work on the propeller and the ten rockets.  Thank you my Fellow Forum Members for following my very simple build.  I just try to keep up with you all and sometimes, it just doesn’t work out that way like my Kingfisher build.  Boy, that was a chore!  lol!!!

Hand painted??! I am impressed!

This is really looking fantastic, Toshi. You have come a long ways to being a professional artist with your builds since you first joined us.

Im hoping you'll consider competing this next year. I think you're ready. :D

Yes, the entire aircraft was sprayed with a rattle can (Model Master Custom Lacquer System AMC Sterling Silver Metallic 3D #28141).  Everything else was hand painted.

The OD anti-glare is Model Master Acrylic OD #4728.  The Black lines are Model Master Acrylic Black #4768.  And the light blue is Vallejo Model Color Deep Sky Blue #70.844. I sometimes enjoy doing hand brushing instead of utilizing an AB.  Don’t be impressed, I do it just because for no other reason.  That’s called ignorance!  lol!

I‘ve come a long ways because of you and fellow forum members.  It was members like you that inspired me to discipline myself and focus past my handicaps and to try to emulate you all.  I’m no professional until I can innovate like you all.  But I thank you for such high esteemed comments, you truly humble me as your fellow peer.

Competing?  COMPETING?  Oh no!  I think I’m a long long away from entering a competition.  I was very lucky to have four of my builds published in the Digital Readers Forum.  Sheer luck, I was very surprised and very honored.  That really humbled me greatly.

I feel blessed just to have a member like you to not only follow my builds but to call a friend.  This forum and it‘s Members has saved my life and shown me what great human beings that are still out there.  The world leaders could learn many things from this forum.  As always, thank you my friend for everything.  I am forever indebted to you!

This is a Flickr link to 8 photos of the Thunderbolt.  I have not sealed the P-47 with a clear Lacquer gloss coat as of yet.  I completed the main decal work into the wee hours last night.  Once sealed I’ll take care of assembling the 10 rockets, propeller, and wheels.  That will complete this build.

Thank you all for following my build.

Hey Toshi, that is looking GREAT.  I really like the bright colors with that shiny base coat. As usual, your decal work is outstanding.  I know you were thinking about re-doing the shiny base coat, but I really like how this looks!

As always, thank you so very much ManCityFan!  Your support means so much to me.  This build has nice bright colors and great potential as a kit.  I’m really enjoying this build to its fullest.

As for the decals, I just utilize a cotton swab (Q-tip) and brush or lightly burnish the decal on.  Sometimes I’ll use Tamiya Extra Thin Cenent to settle the decal down but one must be very careful and subtle with such a caustic solution.  It works for me and I love the looks of it.  Everyone has their special technique.  Mines was just borrowed from FSM Forum members.
