Question on colors
Posted by Greatmaker on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 7:24 PM

Anyone have any ideas for what model master acrylic paints would be close to RAF ocean gray and medium sea gray?  Thank you

Model Master makes Ocean Grey and Medium Sea Grey. Or at least they did until recently. I know one shop near me still has them on their racks.

If you haven't tried Humbrol, it's really nice enamel paint.

I stand corrected they do make an ocean grey but not a medium sea grey that I could find in acrylic

Unfortunately I’m pretty much set up with model master acrylic. That’s what’s available in my area

Neutral Gray FS 36270 is supposed to be the ANA color replacement used on US built lend lease aircraft for the RAF.

Neutral Gray in place of the Sea Gray Medium. FS 36118 is the ANA equivelant of Ocean Gray. My apologies for leaving that important info out.

I'm thinking MM didn't make a few RAF colours in the acrylic line. I built a Spitfire years ago and ended up picking up some of the MM enamel paints to finish it when I couldn't find them in their acrylic line.

I mail ordered this a month or so ago and used some of them on a Tempest. They've worked pretty well so far. Though labeled SE Asia they'll work on any late war RAF subject.

I usually research the colors to find out what it looks like and then custom mix the paints that I have.

I was able to call my local store and they have ocean gray. I see that gunship gray looks close by their shade tabs. I’d figure I’d use ocean gray, neutral gray, and raf dark green for my mosquito. Thank you all for your help I greatly appreciate it
