Yes, Mrs. Toshi is slowly but surely recovering very well.  Thank you so very much JohnnyK.  For an older kit there‘s Lots of detail in the interiors.  I do agree with your comment, this is a very fun kit!  Thank you for stopping by.

To my fellow Forum Members,

Here is my recent update on this build, I have weathered the interior with a product Mrs. Toshi purchased for me when I first started to build kits.  I finally found this product in my tool box.  It’s by Liquitex and the color is Burnt Umber.  I watered it down at about a 50/50 mixture, almost dry brushed it on and then used my finger to scoure it.

I then brushed on Tamiya Weatherine Master system A with a mixture of Mud and Light Sand.  The Radio Operators bulkhead is just a dry fit.  On this build I am thinking of cutting the bomb bay open as it’s closed to display the bombs.  On my Monogram 1/48 Visible B-17G, there was no need to open the bomb bay doors as obviously, the one half of the fueselage was clear.  Thank you Forum Members for following this thread and the many threads I’ve done in the past.

Your friend, Toshi

P.S.  I’d like to add that everything was painted by brush.  And I intend to do so for the entire build.

So I’ve decided to open up the bomb bay doors.  It still needs to be cleaned up and squared off.  Here’s a dry fit.

Yeah!!!  I recieved my Ki-61 today.  I got it for $21.63 from Tokyo Hobby via eBay.  Great bunch there that works hard to get your kit to you.  Plus they have quick replies.

Please understand, I’m not trying to advertise for Tokyo Hobby.  All I’m trying to say is they are very professional.

The Ki-61, It looks fantastic.  Great kit, comes with everything like the canopy masking.  Wow.  And of course the clear fuselage of which I will Definately utilize.  This will be my next project my fellow forum members.

Hey Toshi, sorry I haven't been following you along on this one as much as the others. Great to hear the Mrs. is doing better and nice work so far on the B-17.

PS: You're always welcome to join us in the Japanese Group VIII with your Ki-61 if you have the time.

Not to worry, it’s all good!  Yes, it’ll take time but Mrs. Toshi is doing great.  As for the Japanese Group VIII, I’ll be happy to join in the fun after I’m done with the B-17G.  Thank you so much for the invitation.

Looing good Toshi!  I had the pleasure of being able to walk through one of these over the summer and got lots of interior pics for when I build mine.

Great progress, Toshi! That's a great idea to open the bomb bay and show some additional detail, too.

When Monogram originally designed this kit, they intended to include bomb bay details.  But development costs were rising, so the bomb bay was omitted.  That was a shame, but it was an opportunity for a lot of us to try our hand at scratching it, when we built this as kids.

Keyda-  Wouldn't have been "Madras Maiden" by any chance when she was on tour this summer?  If so, her home hanger is about 120 miles from me.

Toshi- coming along just fine.  Your brush painting rivals my AB....

Will be waiting on the clear fighter to see what you have in store for it.

The interior is looking good !

When I built mine ( way back in 1982 ) I used the "Fat Man" Atomic bomb.  But I had no idea what the bomb bay should look like.

( It was a mess ! )

I dont recall if my kit even had regular bombs or not.

Glad to hear that Mrs. Toshi is doing better. I will continue to send "Good Karma" to both of you.

P.S. ... Just an afterthought..... That kit is big enough, your Grandson should fit in there. Give him a paintbrush and he can get the "Hard to reach " spot's.  L O L !

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

Thank you the baron.  As I was building this kit, I was looking at my Visible B-17G as a reference.  And that’s when I realized you can’t see the bombs on the original B-17G.

Unlike the Visible B-17G of which has a clear fuselage, in the original kit, unfortunately as you explained the issues Monogram had at that time made the bombs literally useless.  I almost omitted the bombs at one point but then decided to open the bomb bay doors up, something I’ve never done before.

I always wanted this kit as a child but could not afford it.  So here I am some forty years later building the B-17G a dream that finally came through.  Thank you so much for stopping by and especially sharing this information.  I greatly appreciate it.

Thank you goldhammer.  Your words are too kind in regards to my Brush Painting. I was going to AB the interior but it’s Cold outside “Burr” and I didn’t want to drag all my equipment to the other room.  Especially when we are watching Ezra my grandson.  He will destroy everything.  lol!

I wasn’t even thinking of building the Ki-61.  At least not until M. Brindos recomened this kit.  What sealed the deal was when Model Maniac posted a photo of one of his many artistic builders Ki-61. What looks really fun is the coloring of the fuselage.  Especially the camouflage of which looks challenging at best.

As always I’ll be doing a WIP on this kit.  Thank you goldhammer for checking in on all of my builds.  Especially the read and replies!

Thank you so very much for the kind comment.  That story with “Fat Man” is very interesting.  Mrs. Toshi is getting better albeit one step at a time.  We both are extremely grateful for sending us the “Good Karma”.

As for my grandson Ezra painting the hard to reach spots we’ve already tried coloring with crayons and found out he‘s not ready yet as he destroys the crayons.  I can already foresee his destructive powers on the B-17G.  lol!  Thank you littletimmy for always supporting my builds.

Yes actually it was Madras Maiden!  She was in Buffalo for a weekend.  I didn't get to take a ride, but I did get to see her taxi in, then back out, and got to walk through once they were done with rides.  It was great!

Your Fortress is looking very good Toshi. Nice interior work!

Talking about the Tony, I have in my stash the old Rvell 1/32 KI61 from 1972 and believe it or not, it's a pretty decent kit. Heck I graduated from High School the following year so talk about an ancient kit LOL!

I gathered the Aires resin pit and fresh Techmod decals to model the deadly Teruhiko Kobayashi's blue 24 of the 244 Sentai that defended Tokio. By May 1945, Mayor Kobayashi had shot down 14 American planes, 10 being B-29s.

Thank you plasticjunkie!  The Interior work was done by Memory as bad as mine is from my first Visible B-17G.  lol!  I did also use it as a reference.  The only difference is that the Visible B-17G‘s interior was painted Yellow Zinc Chromate so that the interior was much more visible as oppose to the darker Green Zinc Chromate.

Wow, you still have a ‘72 Ki-61 1/32 kit?  Amazing!  I’d love to see a WIP on that kit.  Especially since you have aftermarket parts.  Thank you for the historical information, it’s greatly appreciated.  Also thank you for always supporting my builds!

Hello Toshi,

Excellent progress.  The paint is going on very smoothly.  Is that right out of the jar?, or are you doing anything to it?

Also, I noticed the rear wheel is down.  Are you planning on displaying it on the ground with the bay doors open?, or in the air deploying payload?

Keep up the good work.

mmthrax

Just keep picking away at it...

Thank you so very much mmthrax!  Yes, I’m very happy with the way the paint is adhering.  The brushes I used were just purchased by Mrs. Toshi over at Hobby Lobby.  I like the way these brushes flow or as you said; “The paint is going on smoothly”, in that I’m going to paint brush the entire kit and not use my AB.

The paint is right out of a jar and the only thing I do to it is to take three bamboo skewers and vigorously pre-mix the paint.  The only time I take paint out of a jar is when I AB or when I go into detailed painting or if I have to use a wash to create an effect like if the bulkhead is worn out/used.

Yes, I am displaying the B-17G in a landed position with the bomb bay doors open.  I might use the bomb cart, we‘ll have to wait and see as that’s still far off.  I do this as my displays for my Aircraft are hanging on my wall, in-flight aitcraft positions dont do well hanging on my wall.

Thank you so very much sir from the bottom of my heart for following my build.  This means so very much to me.  Also thanks for the read and replies.
