Thanks guys,

GM, they must have been, and still must be, amazing little planes.

I finished the Storch. This was a nice kit with a great fit. The detail was good but really lends itself to additional AM parts and scratchbuilding. I added RB 1/32 belts and scratched the added engine detail. I used Tamiya acrylic, Testers MM and My Hobby paints followed by oils and finally a dusting of weathering powder.

Fabulous finish. That thing looks like its really made of fabric. You out did yourself with the kit and the paintwork. Awesome!!

Very nice build. I like the choice of service as well.

An odd thing- Hobby Boss gives the insignia decals for the wings as all the same pattern. In general, the fasces on RA aircraft would be painted so that the axe blades point outwards towards the wing tips, in other words the two are mirror images of each other.

But I haven't found any photos of RA Storchs where the insignia can be seen, so who knows?

Very nicely done. Love the camo finish, and nice to see an unusual colour scheme for this aircraft. I wasn't aware the Italians flew them

In the queue: 1/48 Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), P43 Lancer (RAAF), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

Thanks GM.

Ya know, now that you mentioned it you're right. HB's decal sheet had them all the same but all other RA builds I've done have them reversed.

Good eye my friend.

The Storch attended the Fort Worth IPMS SuperCon yesterday and won 2nd Surprise

I wasn't going to bring it because planes are very difficult to win, at least in my experence, but my brother was blown away with it and encouraged me to enter it. It was beat by and outstanding 1/32 Revell Arado 196.

I agree with the judges.

Thanks BK and Rambo,

BK, I'm returning to Boise on Friday for 2 weeks and am planning on bringing it with me. A guy at the club said he could take it down with him to the Salt Lake contest and see how it does there.

Thank you D, Jay Jay, Toshi, Mike and Chad.

Mike, I am headed to Boise this Friday for 2 weeks and carefully packed the Storch and Scharnhorst to go in my carry on. They are hopefully going to show at Salt Lake IPMS if I can secure their transportation down there. I will be going the other way (Grey's Harbor, WA.) with my wife that weekend but some of the guys from the Boise club are going to attend.
I'm also hoping to get the swordfish and Prince of Wales in contest condition for next year.

I must admit that it's hard to judge between the two (the Arado and your Storch) just from photos.  I think it must have been a hard decision.  It's certainly a fine example of the modeler's art!

Good luck at the Salt Lake IPMS!

I watched the judges as they were looking at them both. They had the flashlights out which meant it came down to something small. Could be that they saw one imperfection somewhere that made the descision, or it could be that they just like an Arado better than a Storch. They are human, and you just can't take bias out of humans, no matter how much you tell yourself that you're not bias in some form or fashion.

They probably thought you had not placed the swastikas on properly.  Wink

Congrats on the bling Steve. I've seen the competition in these shows. A silver is nothing to sneeze at. Very well done.
