OMG amazing job man!!!! Wow your build encourages me to buil mine, as im afraid of that terrific lozenge pattern!

I have 1 question, how did you manage to paint the wing struts? Im of the idea they look way better with the lozenge pattern too and not just plain  humbrol 86 green as the instructions suggest. (In older releases).

Greetings Josef :p

Very nice!  No matter how big the biplane there are always so many places you have to put your fingers toward the end that they just don't fit!

Thanks Fox!

Well, the Hannover is done, and somehow I found room in my display cases for it! I added fishing line for rigging, and also two pieces of guitar string for rigging (I had forgotten to add rigging in a few places and just realized it this evening). I also added a piece of thermostat wiring that ended up in my sock one day after work that acts as a coolant line for the radiator. I figured why not ?

This is definitely one of my proudest accomplishments, model building-wise. It challenged me, and I accepted! Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement!!

Thanks Johnny, Mopar and PFJN!

Spent the day working on the Hannover some more. The top wing is set AND all of the decals are on! After I let them dry overnight, I’ll begin the weathering process.

Well everyone, sorry it’s been a while. After an unfortunate incident involving a spilled drink on my laptop, I’ve been without a way to communicate with you all- but thankfully my wife’s iPod does the trick!  I’ve done plenty of work on my Hannover these past few weeks. I would have been done with it sooner, but the decals I bought for the lozenge patterns for the wings shattered into fragmenets that I couldn’t use. Undaunted, and perhaps a bit insane, I opted to paint the lozenge patterns myself. It’s taken me WEEKS of using tiny amounts of paint all over the wings and stabilizers, but as of this afternoon the patterns are DONE and I’ll be able to tackle decals and rigging next! It’s shaping up to be a good looking aeroplane. I’ve glued the lower wing, landing gear, and struts on the wings. I’ve also assembled the rear stabilizers.

1/72 Hannover CL.111a finished!
Posted by rocker286 on Saturday, December 8, 2018 1:50 PM

Hey everyone. It's been a busy month or so on my end. I started a new job and that's basically consumed most of my time. But I have been slowly chipping away at a new model - Airfix's 1/72 Hannover CL.111a. It's been a while since I've built a biplane. But if I can learn how to work on furnaces, boilers and air conditioning units, I think I can piece together another aeroplane!

I started working on it the last week of October, and I've since completed the fuselage and painted it. The paint job took FOREVER, as it's the large lozenge-style German camo. I didn't quite have the appropriate colors for the job, but I improvised and the results were better than I had expected. I drew the pattern freehand onto the fuselage and wing sections with pencil, and simply painted within the lines. I used RLM 23, RLM 04, Panzer Olivgrun, green zinc chromite, and US Dark green for the camo scheme. I also used Steel for the engine compartment and white for the tail. All paints were Testors model master paints, with the exception of the prop and the interior of the plane. this was done with Winsor & Newton Burnt Sienna.

Now I know what you're thinking, and nope, I'm NOT painting on the wing lozenges. I already spent wayyyyy to long on the larger pattern, I'm afraid I'll develop eye strain if I try to paint the smaller pattern! I'll be ordering a decal sheet with the patter on it, and cutting it to fit the top and bottom sections of both wings.
