Thank you everyone for the kind and encouraging comments.

I think what kept me out of model building all these years is the fear that I will ruin a model, you know, that it won't come out perfect. That feeling was very off putting. When I decided to get back into it, I decided that I didn't care if someone doesn't like my work. I will be doing this for my enjoyment and satisfaction.

Hey, these aren't perfect kits. At least the kind of kits in my stash aren't, so how can I expect perfection?  So now I am not expecting perfection, as long as I am happy with my effort, then so be it. I am puting the fun back into my modelling.

My motto is now, that line from Monty Python and the Holy Grail: "It's only a model!"

Happy modelling Big Smile

Anyone who can whip these old Monogram kits into that good of shape has talent.

Keep dusting off those skills and welcome back!

Nice job on those two! The Monogram TBD kit is one of my old favorites. I like how you have their first and last most common schemes covered with these two.

Nicely done pair. YesYes

I don't recall ever having seen the yellow wing versions, I really like them. And what a treat to have seen them from 3 talented gents in as many days.

Those turned out beautiful. Looks like after your hiatus you haven’t missed a step. Thanks for sharing your work.

My two TBD Devastators

Lately the Douglas TBD Devastator has been a popular subject. Lawdog114 posted two great examples. I just finished two myself, I know they can't hold a candle to Lawdog's great work, but anyway here is my story.

A while back I decided to get back into model building after a long hiatus. On my "to do" list is a Monogram TBD Devastator. When I started the kit, I found It was missing two pieces. I bought a kit off Ebay so I could use that kits part to replicate the missing pieces. I was able to so, crudely, and decided to build both models together.

The first model i built as a prewar verision built with the "topedo" optin and the canopy closed (To help hide the crudely built missing pieces.Wink) and the second one I buil;t as a bomber "at war" plane with the canopy open. Techmod decals replaced the kit versions and fortunately there was enough to decal both "eras" of the plane with enough leftover to do a third.

I used Hitaka and model master paints including some old scool testors square bottle and craft paints thrown in here and their.

Weathering is just an acrylic black wash to bring (hopefully) the panel lines. Exedpt on the Black tail of the prewar Devastator where I used a light grey to highlight the tail.

Just have'n me some fun!
