Mopar Madness

LD, I've been searching for a new gloss coat.  So if I'm understanding this correctly, you use 1/2 X-22 Clear Gloss and 1/2 Mr. Leveling Thinner for a couple coats, then immediately overspray with straight Leveling Thinner after you applied the half and half coats?  How heavily do you apply the straight thinner?

Correct.  Not too heavy, just give a light coat.

That finished up nicely! That mouth came up well which must have been hard?

Do you make a new base for every build?

Nice P-40!  The tiger mouth decal came out really well. I really like the camo paint job as well.

Thanks Josh...

No, I have a handful I use for photography.  I should make more.

I finally finished this turkey up. To recap, it's Ed Rector's #104 from the 23rd FG.  Rector scored 10.5 kills and holds the distinction of having the first AVG kill. The kit is good, but would be outstanding if it wasn't for all the plugs and inserts, which don't fall on panel lines or fit particularly well.  Unfortunately it really detracts from the enjoyment of building the Hasegawa P-40 series. I truly believe whomever designed this kit should be fired or at least demoted to janitorial duties.

Extras included Eduard Look IP/seatbelts and Brassin Tires.  Main markings were done with Montex masks. Kit specific markings, like the sharkmouth, are kit decals.  This scared me but they surprisingly worked very well.

Overall I'm pretty happy with it.  I must say I did enjoy being back in 1/32 scale. Very easy on the eyes.  I even started a 1/32 109.

I'm drooling over this one.

Nice and pretty, Joe!  By the way, it's easier for me to remember building a model if there are a few glitches along the way.  Otherwise I see it in the display case later and think, when did I build that?  Did I build that?

Wonderful build Lawdog!  The “Flying Tigers” P-40E was my favorite airplane when I was a wee lad!
