Lawdog and TJ,

Thanks guys.

Knox,

Once I finish my international Mustang collection, I'll have built around 35-40 Mustangs on the shelf (thank goodness they're in 1/72).  Unless there's a compelling reason, I doubt I'll build another one after that.

Nice job on your model. One simply cannot have too many Mustangs.

Nice to see an F-51.  It turned out great.

Thanks Chad.  Probably not the most unusual markings you'll see on a Mustang.  According to Wikipedia, about 30 countries flew the Mustang over the years, some you wouldn't think of.  Maybe I'll do one of those for my next international build.  Working on two for Ed's Shelf of Doom Build.  I started them back in 2005 for our club's group entry for the IPMS Nationals.  The subject of the build was the 357th FG, so I'll finish them in those markings.

Number five for the year is done.  It is also number six in my Mustangs of the World collection.  I present to you Tamiya's venerable 1/72 P-51D in SAAF markings.  The plane is from 2 Sqn, based at Chinhae (K10), and attached to the 18th FBG USAF in 1950.  Decals are by AIMS Decals.

A pic of the actual aircraft.

Now for the build.  Cockpit is ready.

I now have something that looks like a plane.

Put your mask on, there's going to be a paint fight.

Paint is on.

Now for decals.  Two part roundels, fun.

Decals are done.  Just need to hang the ordnance.

Stick a fork in her, she's done.

Tried to cover up a couple of places where the paint for the antiglare panel  and pass it off as weathering but didn't quite pull it off.  Normally don't hang things on the wings, forgot how fiddly these things are.  Really liked the AIMS Decals.  There are two, possibly three more builds for The Forgotten War GB on it.
