Time to wrap up the Shar. I added some RBF tags and a single figure which is from a Hasegawa USAF set just painted in RN uniform. Again, figures are what lets these 72nd dio's down. I wanted to add a ladder but the Eduard one was so fragile it just broke up as i was trying to build it. So i ordered a couple fo set of the Brengun ladders. These has 2 in each set so means i could also add one to the GR.9 and have another pair for my Hunter and another Harrier. Much easier to build. I also have a set of chocks under the rear wheels.

This aircraft was based at RNAS Yeovilton in 2006.

Thanks for following along. Its nice to foinally have a Harrier on the shelf.

All comments welcome as always.

Bish, the Harrier looks great without question. But that little tractor is the bees knees!

Don't fix the chip!

Ha, TB beat me to the punch, I was thinking the same.

I really like the way the Harrier turned out, and the ground support vehicle is great.

I like Harriers but have never built one. Thanks for sharing this.

Well done, Martin.  Lots of nice detail in a small space on both of your Harriers.

Please:

Don't fix the chip! The little tractor has a certain character that lends itself to a good chip or two! Love the " Mad Mosquito" ( Mine and my First wife's nickname for a fully weaponed up Harrier")

One short final update before i wrap up this build. The Shar is now finished and ready to attch to the base. I just gave it a light flory wash and the final mat coat, then adde stores, canopy and the final bits. For the canopy i used the PE Det cord which came with the Eduard PE. I atached this to the inside useing future and i much prefer this over the decal i used on the GR.9.

And i also finished the F59 tractor. This is a nice litle kit. It is missing some markings, namely the brand name of the company that makes it.

And i have just noticed that little chip in the yellow behind the door, so will touch that up.

So, i just need to add some RBF tags and fit this all to the base, and sort out a figure. Should be done by next weekend.

Been a while since i updated as both the harrier builds slowed a bit, partlydown to some issues with the GR.9. But here is the Shar painted and decaled and ready for some weathering.

Hopefylly won't be as long till the next one.

This sir, is turning out to be a much antisapated build.  Great job and being that the Harrier is an awesome subject this is turning into a blast to view!  Ezra said he wants to make a Harrier as well, he watched True Lies movie.

And at the end of the climatic battle, two Sea Harrier blast a bridge and land behind the Nuclear safety zone blast.  That's one movie maybe the only movie Ezra and I enjoy especially the end scene!

Bish,

The Academy B/C is probably the best B/C kit in 1/72.  TJ is referring to an early D-5 model, which had a filletless tail and fabric elevator surfaces.  Obscureco makes a conversion for the -5 including the early style radios and batteries.  I think it would be possible to adapt the Academy tail to the Tamiya D and make a decent -5.  If you build that other scale, the new tool Airfix D is filletless tail and Eduard makes one as well. To further complicate things, there was a field modification for the B/C which added the fillet.  I've seen pics of the modification on USAF, RAF, and RAAF birds.

Thank frank. I have the 72nd FRS. 1 in the stash. I wil be hosting a falklands war GB next year if your interested, i plan on doing a GR.3 for that.

Do you have a sign up page for that GB yet?

No, i won't be starting it until July so it can run to June 22 to mark the 40th anniversary.

I've been looking on occasion for a 1/700 HMS Antelope or HMS Sheffield for this GB for the past couple of years and they seem to be on perpetual backorder, or too outrageously priced on eBay to bother.

I may have to look for a Super Etendard instead. Confused

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

That's looking good Bish.  Saw this on Aztec Models website.  There is a part one, but it's only available in 1/48.

Thanks for that link. If i am seeing that rightm, it includes markings for one of the Phantoms based on Ascension during the war. I might have to be picking myself up another Airfix kit for that.

I recently sent Airfix a question regarding if they were going to make an early version of the Mustang (no fillet for tail) in 72nd. No reply yet

To me since there are no good early version Mustangs without surgery in 72nd that if they did it would be a license to print money. I know I'd buy at least a dozen.

Is not the Academy B kit an early one, or is it just not a good kit.
