Just started digging into this monstrous kit from Tamiya. A perfect combination of detail, fit and engineering make these Tamiya 1/32 kits a joy to build, even though this one will take a while. I'll just savor it as I make progress.
I've had this kit in the stash for quite a while and was looking for the right scheme and finally found one really worthy of this project. I'm going with 3-W of 235 Squadron, decked out in the Coastal Command scheme with full invasion stripes.
More specifically, this plane was finished in special duties scheme A of extra dark sea grey upper surfaces and sky undersides. 235 Squadron was based in Portreath UK during the Normandy invasion. This plane as pictured above was flown by Fg Offs Noel Russell and Tom Armstrong to escort frigates on July 18, 1944.
For inspiration, here's a color photo of a recently restored Mosquito in New Zealand in the same scheme.
The plan is build mostly out of the box. I'll probably add some wiring to one of the engines, but will stay with the kit for the rest. I'll go with MRP lacquers this time and will use Maketar masks for the main markings. I also grabbed some Barracuda decals for extra cockpit detail and got the HGW transfers for the stencils.
I'm working on the cockpit now and should have some photos within a few days.

The front office is now complete. Tamiya has done a wonderful job on this. I built it completely OOB without extra wiring, etc. but did add a few Barracuda placards to spice things up.
The IP is really lights out fantastic. Tamiya used the same technique as the Spitfire and Mustang with decals behind the clear lenses but this time they have thin PE panels instead of plastic, which makes the lenses thinner and more realistic.
Of course the fit is 100% perfect. No issues at all.
I used MRP, Tamiya and Mission models paints and had to build and paint in various assemblies to accommodate the detail painting, decals, clear parts, and the build. I used a flory wash, some pigments for dirt, a little sponge with steel paint for wear/chipping and some colored pencils for some detail.
Enjoy the photos. The Merlin engines are next.

That's fantastic work on the Mossie pit.
I'd love to get this big girl (and one day I quite likely will), but having built Airfix's even bigger 1/24 Mossie several years ago, I have to wonder where I would put another large scale Mosquito.
