Progress report: these holes in the underside were where the bomb rails were mounted.

I used these Evergreen styrene pieces to fill the holes; sticking one in vertically until it stops on the wing surface inside, dabbing liquid glue on and then snipping it at the surface. Four pieces fill the hole nearly perfectly.

More as it happens.

First stage of fuselage assembly. Good thing I bought extra clothes pins! 

"So far" the seam issues aren't at the OMG stage; taking my time and careful trimming seem to be helping. (Imagine that!)

For the clear windows ,I use Bondic, the UV glue. It's instant setting when you bathe it with the light and very controlable and no mixing

It will take a billion applications of Futures to get a decent thickness for the windows. Try 5 minute epoxy, quick , strong and clear.

One of the last of the quick dash nuclear bombers of the Cold War.I built this model for my oldest son 25 years ago.They used to be based at Bunker Hill AFB north of Kokomo, IN during the late 1960's as my memory relates. I remember the noise from late evening Operation Readiness Inspections.They roared out over our house in full afterburner.

 

Grissom is still there. Tankers only right now last I heard plus a very nice museum. 

Ejection seat's painted; going together tonight.

I can see why this was a dash in and drop aircraft; there is VERY little room in that cockpit at least for the pilot. I can't imagine sitting in this thing for extended hours. 

Out of curiosity, are the red "handlebars" the ejection mechanism? Pull, clamshell slams down and you go BOOM?

Sweet! I have this kit in my stash, and I'll get to it one day. Although, I've read a lot of horror stories about this kit. Of course, that didn't stop me from building the 1/48 B-1. I've always thought the Hustler looked cool in that camo scheme. When I get around to mine, I think I'll dress her up in NMF.

That'll be really cool to see a "what if" B-58 in SAC SIOP colors.  I'm painting my FB-111A in that scheme, and I have found the Model Master enamel versions of the colors to be the most accurate after having tried Vallejo.  The Vallejo versions were way off.  Might be hard to find the Model Master enamels anymore though.  I had to buy the rattle cans and decant them.  MRP makes their versions of the SIOP colors now, so you might try those if you can't find the Model Master enamels.

I'll be interested to know if that technique works. I'm might give it a go. 

First attempt on the starboard side using tube glue. Ick. Might've used too much; port side will be done with Tamiya extra thin.

Port side looks much better.

First step is the terrible windows on the side. The clear plastic piece as installed leaves them very deep set, not flush like they're supposed to be.

Solution? Clear transparency film for copiers cut into strips and glued over the inside to provide a backing for an initial gloop of Elmers glue to act as a masking until painting, then (hopefully!!) it will pop out cleanly and I can fill the hole with Future or Kristle Clear.
