LOL - just when I think my builds aren't that bad... you and Hoss make me realize that I have a LOT more to learn and practice. ;)

Great job. I love the tonal variation in the color scheme. Looks like a mix of several methods/layers. So pleasing to the eye.

For the cowling, did you cut out individual squares to mask the black? Guessing you did base metal - black - mask - and then yellow? Chipping medium over the metal first?

 

Thanks Dave.  Indeed, Hoss is inspiring for sure.  The paint is several shades of paint using a spatter template and then oil filters.  You are correct on the cowl.  Silver first, hairspray, black, Tamiya tape cut into squares, then yellow.  A toothpick was then used to chip it.

There might have been 3 colors involved, noting the differentation behind the canopy.

But a good job nonetheless!

Thanks Gary. Yeah, I studied that pic for a long time during the paint stage. That looks field applied to my eye and appears to be on the port wing too. Who knows when that was added as this reportedly had several paint jobs in its career. I decided to stay cohesive and use Eagle Strike's interpretation.

Ya know, there is not one part of this build that isn't just outstanding. The painted cowl smacks of realism, the camo paint, beautifully done engine and paint wear/chipping says it all. I don't know how you just keep getting better.

I believe that I have run out of descriptive words that do your builds justice. You have perfected the chipping effect to high standard. But I do miss your build posts of the past. 

 

May I ask what paint mix/colour the cockpit was painted?

it's my interpretation of Dull Dark Green, roughly half Tamiya flat blue and flat green. Very simple.
