Testors/Italeri 1/72 V-22 Osprey 1st Air Commandos 1945 . . .
I was unsure as to where to post this build. Aircraft? Helicopters? I decided here in this forum. I bought this kit at Modelpalooza last month. I'm not a big fan of the V-22, but I've had this idea ever since I saw a fellow's build of a V-22 in D-Day livery a couple of years ago.
Reference photos I used for this build showed V-22's parked on the ramp with the rotors rotated forward so that's how I decided to pose the build. The build was pretty straight forward. No extras except decals (ugh). The pilots are from the old Monogram F-82 kit. Most of the paint is Tamiya: Khaki Drab, Neutral Gray, White, Black, and my mix of Insignia Yellow. The rotor blades are painted with Mr. Color Gloss Black. The rotor hubs are AK Dark Aluminum. All sealed with Alclad Clear Flat.
I made a mistake using decals instead of painting the national insignia. I really should have painted them. I used a lot of Tamiya Gloss Clear to seal the paint and prep the surface for decals. Everything was fine until I sprayed the Alclad Clear Flat. Then the edges of the decals showed up glaringly. Lesson learned.
I have a couple of other !st Air Commando Group build coming up: a P-51A and a Razorback Thunderbolt and maybe a P-51D.
Comments and constructive criticism always welcome.
