Yes Eaglecash867, I believe this was the last F-106 chase plane. It went from chase work on the B-1 to modification as a target drone and was destroyed with a missile shot in 1993...Crying

Thanks Tanker-Builder! Delta wing planes are a special kind of beautiful.

Nice looking Delta Dart!  Is that a model of one of the chase planes for the B-1 program?  They were still using F-106s as chase planes at Plant 42 for the B-2 program as well in the late 80s.  I think the F-106 still holds the record for being the loudest aircraft in the US inventory, and I would definitely agree with that from being near Plant 42.  They could fly over at 10,000 feet and it still felt like someone was drilling holes in your teeth.

I have always loved the look of the Delta Dart. When I saw this kit I just had to have it. This was my first Meng kit, and overall it went together very well.

There were only two areas where I ran into problems. One was the landing gear door struts, these were extremely small and didn't seem to be long enough to connect from the inside of the wheel bay to the door. The other area where I had some trouble was really a me problem more than a kit problem. This gray plastic is hard to cover with white, after several coats of primer and paint I got the intakes looking good. Somehow I missed that a random rectangle of material from the wing assembly needs to fit up into the intake floor. If I had been more patient with my dry fitting, I would have saved myself A LOT of frustration. Bang Head I globbed primer and paint down that intake more times than I can count and it did not want to cover this tiny spot of bare plastic. I put so much paint in there it started seeping out from between the wing and fuselage sections. Indifferent Finally after several sessions over about three weeks I got it done.

The kit has an incredible amount of detail options. Because of the aircraft I chose to model, I didn't make use of any of the open electronics panels, weapon bays, or missile carts, but she would make an awesome diorama centerpiece.

I also added some aftermarket decals from xtradecal.

Here she is...
