Have you ever have your model ,that you consider average to be unexpectedly popular?

I was quite shocked when I took my first Tamiya F-14 build to WrightCon a few years back and when I came to pick it up after the show, there was an actual award sitting next to it. 
Of course I left it there cuz it was obviously a mistake on someone's part. 

Just kidding.

Unfortunately, I've had the opposite effect happen more.  Like everyone else, I tend to be my own worst critic but occasionaly I build something that I'm happy with and take it to my local club's monthly meeting and the reaction,if any, is luke-warm from the other members.  Now, I'm an eclectic builder and tend to build things that interest me and the rest of the members are either aircraft,armor, or automotive builders so they tend not to be interested in anything else.  Sometime it bothers me but first and foremost I build for myself and will continue to do so.

       It's as I've said and I will repeat it to anyone that will listen. We, the Builders of these models are our own worst critics!! Time and time again I could see, for instance that microscopic orange peel in the corner of an Auto paint job, BUT, all anyone did was rave about this Gorgeous Model! So, you see, Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder, NOT the builder, obviously!

Yep, digital photography is a cruel mistress.  But if you want a no-holds barred critical look at your model, it is very useful.

I have even gone back and fixed invible "issues" after looking at pictures

I don't post much any more as my modeling has really slowed down. I find that here a lot of posters are very interested in subject matter and history, and like unusual or instructive subjects.

For sure,I always think less of my stuff,I'm not saying it's great but I always get compliments online and in person at the meetings.

This is really made worse when looking at pictures. I can be totaly happy with a finished model and then look at the picture and see thing that just don't show up in real life. I have even gone back and fixed invible "issues" after looking at pictures.

Just wondering if any of you formites had a model that you consider average to get an unexpectedly positive reaction every where you post it?I built the Lindberg Lefleur/Jolly Roger about 7 years ago and I thought it was attractive but unexceptional.Every where I posted it on here and Other Forums as well as Social media sites to receive a great deal of likes ,questions and positive reactions .Flattering but kind of unexpected.

Yes I have. The Brewster F2A that I finished a couple of months ago was the latest one for me. It is full of small flaws, yet it was received quite well at IPMS in November, taking first place in the contest. Ya just never know who or what else is gonna show up.

When I see some of the work posted on forums it makes me consider all my models average and am suprised by the positive reactions!
