mustang1989 TOTALLY missed this one Ernie!! These Tammy F4's build up into some good looking models as I've seen at the shows. Paint and weathering are at a true premium on this build. You're right too about it being HUGE at nearly 2 feet long!!! I went up against (and lost) against one of these for best aircraft of show in 2016 in San Antonio with my Fw190 D-9. That guys replication of this beast was as good as yours is here. Beautiful work bud.

Hey thanks Joe. This F4 had some minor dealings but at the end it all came together. Tamiya's details are very good specially inside the pit. Thanks for taking the time to look and post.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!

Tcoat I know there is often debate about how dirty operational aircraft should be but having dumped tens of thousands of gallons of fuel into those things I can say without a shadow of a doubt that you 100% nailed the underside. They could leave the base perfectly clean and come back looking like that just an hour later.

Thanks Tcoat. I try to stay on the realistic side when weathering a subject. Appreciate your input in this conversation.
GlennH Just excellent work. That grime streaking underneath is just fantastic.

Thanks. Artist's oils work really well for this step.

Thanks cb. The 1/32 Revell is decent and actually has less fitting issues than this Tamiya and is lots less dinero.
On the Bench: Too Much
I finally found a couple of pit pictures I had taken during the build. The IPs were painted and the instrument faces dry brushed then clear plastic cement was added for the glass.
The seats were pretty much naked without the added pe details. The face curtain rings were sprayed yellow then thin masking tape strip was cut and wrapped using two twerzers. Once the tape was on black paint was sprayed and when dry the tape was removed producing an even wrapped stripe.
Mopar Madness That's super PJ! I really like the subtle chipping around the cockpit.

Thanks Mopar. A sharpened silver Prismacolor pencil over flat paint works wonders.

Greg That's a beautiful F4, Ernie. As usual, your detail work, painting and weathering are spot-on. I think some lucky person is going to be very happy.

Thak you both for your comments and observations.
Wow, just... wow! Outstanding work and weathering!
Your Phantom turned out great.
I built the Navy version of that Tamiya kit many years ago. I don't recall fit issues on mine, but who knows since I've slept a bunch since then.
keavdog What a beauty. Who doesn't love an F-4. Great job.

patrick206 Very well done Fox Four, Ernie, a fine tribute to General Olds and his wartime ride. Your efforts in building this beauty are well rewarded, with a parfect example of craftsmanship and skill. Thanks for the post and photos. Patrick
