While on the subject of VIII AF Mustangs, here's a couple shots of two of George Preddy's P-51s that I posted in another thread recently. Thought I'd throw them in here in case some missed that thread.

Both images from the 352nd FG gallery on Little Friends.

It's interesting to see the lack of contrast on the first pics nose at this angle.  Just goes to show how iffy using black and white pics as references can be.

Iffy indeed...

Justen, I fear I've failed to come up with anything for firebottles on carts. Pretty much all the photos I've seen along those lines show a guy with a handheld job, and that's it.

Here's something a little different... I've never messed around with video... until now.

I took some of my photos from Geneseo this year and threw 'em together with some sound and a stock vintage movie effect from Windows Movie Maker and came up with this...

Geneseo 2008 in Photographs

I'm not entirely happy with it, but it's my first try... so what the hey...

Enjoy... or not...

Thanks for looking Steve.  I appreciate it.

The video is pretty sweet.  You should do some commentary through a megaphone to complete the effect.  Propeller [8-]

Did another video... it's another photo compilation, but this time with vintage photos and modern music.

Unfortunately, the audio sync is slightly outta wack... dunno what happened, it was fine during editing and final checks before creating the movie file.

Nevertheless, it ain't too bad, although YouTube's file compression makes the transitions look horrible. Any idea how I can get around that? Would it be better to use lower-res images, and that way they don't have to compress too much during processing? Any tips would be welcome, as I am a total newbie at videos...

Anyhoo, here it is... enjoy...

Here's one I've been posting around the net today...

I don't know which airfield this ship was assigned to... anyone know which field 'R' represents?

EDIT: I've discovered that 'R' was used by Lemoore AAF in California, but I kinda doubt this Hawk was from there. I'm thinking it's Third AF...

Also, if anyone can point me towards some good solid info for AAF FTC/TC and Stateside airfield codes in general, I'd be most appreciative.

Dunno what airfield, but the markings look as if the paint was not yet dried prior to flying around a bit. Makes for a nice, sloppy P-40.

Alrighty... here's another quiz. I'd considered going back to the old system for these, but the last one didn't exactly garner an enthusiastic response. I guess the crowd we have here now is not quite as adventurous along these lines as was the old gang...

Man, I miss the 'old days'... Sigh [sigh]

Nevertheless... everyone likes a mystery, even if it isn't a big one.

So, what is it?

No takers on the quiz, eh? Whistling [:-^]

I posted these elsewhere recently, so will put them here as well...

A couple of the nicer shots I caught of 'Glamorous Gal' at Geneseo last month.

Here's an image I used in the second video I put together...

This is a nice portrait of an anonymous P-47B.

The red circle was ordered deleted from the US national insignia in May of 1942, so this might be one of the first four production P-47Bs, which were delivered in March, 1942.

Another image from that video...

Unidentified pilot climbing into a P-36 from the 55th PS, 20th PG... possibly at March Field, CA.

And another from the video...

Often mistaken for an ex-AVG Tomahawk, this is in fact P-40 serial number 39-280 seen while in service with the 2539th AAFBU at Foster Field, Texas.

Here's an 'FSM Exclusive'... I've not posted this elsewhere as yet... not even on the website. (That'll change soon, though!)

P-40 39-160... the fifth production P-40.

Hey Steve-O,

OOoooo I loved both vids... Sweet MAN..!! This P-40 is sure interesting.. I like how what looks to be the Port underwing star deletion and just a ring is left..

And yes the weathering is quiet interesting too..

 Definitely a "Future" build idea..!!

Thanks fer sharing

Thanks Mike, glad you like the vids... someday I'll learn how to make 'em a bit nicer all way 'round.

That P-40 would make a groovy model, wouldn't it? It's on the build list for sure... now all I have to do is... uhhh... build...

There's that damn broken record again! Tongue [:P]

Anyhoo, in addition to the painted out national insignia on the lower port wing, there's also an old designator from a previous group assignment... '54P97', which indicates the 54th Pursuit Group.

There's also this emblem on the starboard side of the fuselage... I have yet to figure out its significance. Possibly an unofficial unit emblem, or perhaps a personal motif.

This photo, taken on November 10th, 1934, shows a formation of Army Air Corps trainers in the ever popular 'USA' formation overflying Building 100 at Randolph Field, Texas.

At the time, Building 100 was the Administration Building at Randolph... but was, and still is, better known as the 'Taj Mahal'... or simply, the 'Taj'...

I think it is the Boeing/Stearman XBT-17.

Never seen it before, was making me nuts!!!

I'd say you are right, John, except that she's got the old Lycoming with front collector from the bipe. Is that why she's the "X"?. I'm not aware of what to call her.

Good one, Curtiss.

It is a Lycoming, Bill.  As on the PT-13 type Stearman 75 which had a front collector ring.  It is probably more correctly the Stearman Model 90.  I can't figure out so far if there were two airframes or if the XBT-17 was the same one modified with a cowl over a P&W R-985.

BLESS YOU BlackWolf3945 !!! Those are the best pics I've ever seen of these aircraft !!!! My grandfather was in the Army Air Corps and I've seen a lot of unbelievable pictures in the past of WW II aircraft but never as crisp and clear as these, they look like they were taken yestaerday !!! I'm a P-40 nut, I know these are either B or C versions, god these are beautiful !!! By the way just for the WIP or those reading, the only Merlin engined P-40s were the F and L models (difference betwen the two was the F model was basically an D/E model and spec except for the cowling area, you didn't have the upper intake snorkel and the L model just about the same except the tail boom was longer). If you ask me I'd take the P-40E all day long but the F/L models, with the more streamlined cowling area,  looked prettier !!!
