As a starting point on the kit, where ever the instructions tell you to paint flat white, don't. The inside intakes, wheel wells, gear doors, landing gear, inside of the speed brake well, were all gloss white. The inside of the speed brake was gloss red.
The cockpit is one of the worst parts of the kit. There is no detail at all for the sidewalls, center, rear deck, or areas behind the seat. The glare shield doesn't have the RHAW scope, or sensor scope, so those will have to be added. All F-4E were smart bombers so these items should be there. The windshield bow doesn't have the AOA indexer lights, shoot lights, standby compass or any thing for that matter. You will have to add them. I would suggest an AM update for these areas. Also go for AM seats and the Eduard color PE parts for the seat and cockpit. The Blackbox for the Tamiya F-4, I am told will not work on the Revell kit. I am sure some parts could be used, such as side walls and inst panels.
Another major area that will need work is the intakes. I doesn't have intake trunks, and the seamless sucker intakes for the Revell kit are no longer in production. The new seemless intakes sold my Meteor for the Tamiya F-4 will not work on the Revell kit.
The rear Sparrow missile wells are way too long. You will have to fill in and sand the aft part of the well. Place a Sparrow in the well and mark the rear end. Fill in and smooth from there back. This is where good reference will come in handy.
Another AM part you should get is wheels. The kit wheels are not very accurate. When painting and installing decals, remember this is the non TISEO and ARN-101 equiped aircraft, so watch your serial numbers close.
Edit: This is the latest offering from Revell, isn't it? The one with LES (Leading edge slats) and not the one released in the 70's? If it is the early release, a lot of scratchbuilding will be needed to make it look anything at like a F-4E.
