Bf 109G6 FuG 25a antenna question
Posted by stinger on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 11:50 AM

Hey all - I'm building a Hartmann 109 G6 (White 1), and my references say it has the FuG 25a antenna. Can someone tell me what this looks like and where it is located on the aircraft? I have the Hasa 1:48 kit (three different ones actually) and I have all the Eduard PE sets available for it so I'm sure I have the part, I just don't know which one or where it goes.

Thanks in advance,

stinger

It's the small antenna on the bottom of the fuselage, second frame back aft of the canopy.

Gotcha. Vielen dank Mikester!!

Thanks for the diagram also Smile [:)]

So, one other question: What is the antenna that protrudes from the bottom of the port wing, and would that also be used on this model?

That's the FuG 16ZY VHF radio, you'll see it referred to as the "Morane" mast sometimes as well.  I don't believe Hartmann's "White 1" was equipped with this.

I'm not sure of the dates but this started showing up in the latter part of '44.  I think it was primarily used for planes assigned to Reich Defense.

It seems mikester got it covered, he's dead on. I'll just confirm and say hartmanns white 1 (my personal favorite) did not have fug 16 zy and thus no mast.

keep in mind this mid/late war G-6 was equipted with the MW50 power boost system so it did have C3 fuel stencils and the battery box behind the pilot as well.

I have posted this before but will say again. This is hartmann 109 "white 1" for the most part but is not accurate. I basically placed his marking on a bf109G-14 all weather version. Also worth a mention is the leading edge scallops are also not seen on hartmanns white 1. All right! Thanks again Mikester, Stan and everyone else.

Stan - I think I have this one correct as per my EagleCal ref's and your own notes as stated above. No scallops on the leading edges, I scratch built a battery on the back of the cockpit, no DF loop antenna, but kept the base intact, short antenna mast attached to Erla Haube canopy with antenna wire leading to the mast, also have the C3 decal correct. Only prob I have is, as I mentioned in another thread, I forgot to fill in the starboard side fuel ports, and so, as you said, I have the long range version of this A/C Smile [:)], very seldom mentioned, and no pic was ever taken of it Wink [;)].

Speaking of the battery, did it have a strap over it to hold it down, or was it bolted in?

If this thing ever gets done I'll put up some pics of it.

Thanks again for all the help.

Stinger that sheet is correct and very nice I might add. it was done by the well known luftwaffe historian jerry Crandall. This guys knows luftwaffe. The battery is behind a plate. the plate has a square shape too it and thats what you are seeing. I'll post a pic later.

Daywalker I like throwing in curves like this hartmann 109. It keep people on there toes. It also inflames some of the hard nose luftwaffe gestapo who must have everthing right (not on this forum). I don't know what makes them more upset that I build a better model than them, or that I know what "accurate" and do it my way Evil [}:)].

Thanks for the info Stan - you do know your stuff!!......and I appreciate you and everyone who is following this thread.

I'll try to post a pic of what I have so far on this build regarding the battery box and some other details. This build is going to a relative in Germany, so I would like to have it as accurate as possible.

Also, FYI, I am using the Eaglecal sheet #36, Eric Hartmann, The Blond Knight, which is just now back in print. I ordered two more copies straight from EagleCal three weeks ago and received them today. Anyone who wants to do a Hartmann in 1:48 should order theirs now before they go OOP again.
