My fault about the oh-6 on the roster :( I didn't realized that I can put in the group.. So I not put here the updates.

If you want can put the ch-46 from hobby boss 1/72 as conversion into Kawasaki kv-107 . he is again under wip :)

Hey Bsyamato Cool OH-6. i have that kit and am going to do it as an MH-6, especially if i can fine 1/72 miniguns instead of rocket pods. I didn't realize i had a JGSDF option until i opened it. i seem to have a collection of spec ops helos. i have the HobbyBoss CH-46 in the helo stash.

Bsyamato, great job with the little chopper.  Yes

Dating myself, but from the Magnum PI series, didn't his buddy TC fly a civilian version of one of these?

regards,

Jack

-------------

ps. thanks for comments on the resin Nakajima.  I've continued with the brass pins and  have the lower wings and tails planes set in place.  Will post some more progress soon.

Bsyamato: Okie-Dokie, just updated you with the KV-107.

Jack: I think so, TC's chopper looked like a Hughes 500 which is a civilian version of the MC 500. I remember one or more of these with a fake gun strapped to one skid and a rocket launcher strapped to the other showed up in about half the episodes of Airwolf too!

Thanx for comments guys Bow Down

Waynec i think is not hard to find minigun for the mh-6 version, probably a spooky ac-47 or other gunships can be good donor, for the japanse version , probably i left some perfect mods ,  because jsdf OH-6 seems have probably the shorter version of gears and some minor mods..

Jack i had the same idea about the Magnum PI version of the h-500, the kit could easily used for the civil version .. i need just to find another copy of the kit, also i have a wessex from matchbox that i will use for riptide pink S-58T Angel

Ps just some day ago i discovered that the TC's helicopter used in the show recently crashed :(

So .. here the "roosted" kv-107

Box'n'sprues as usual:

So, the version in the box are a later version of ch-46 respect to the early kawasaki license.. main modding required are in the tail rotor castle, shorter than the one in the kit and circular exhausts insted of smoothed rectangle in the kit.

For the kit, it's an honest kit with acceptable details but poor respect the mil-2 and mil-4 from hobby boss i recently finished. Also have a mi-17 in the box that surpass the ch-46 for details.

The works i did till now:

Cockpit bulkhaed and IP

test fitting of original fuselage

bad cargo bay seats.. i will not use them

First interventions , removed belly linear antennas

Removed original exhaust and engine armours

new holes for exhaust

closing the upper hole in the cockpit with plasticard rectangle

rudder pedals (dunno why but none of my hobby boss helicopters used to include these details Alien ) . Also added rear IP details

Important notice.. the bulkead rear the pilots had stars.. engraved stars in the wall Confused

Not perfect fitting of canopy on sides

Wires everywhere

a throught floor hole fitting the excess

Not sure ho i can fill the gap but cut out the excess from the back of the tail rotor basement, also must bended on a side instead the simmetric original pieces

on the right side

Continues on fuselage details

founded in a chinese store a rubber table cloth that have an intresting romboidal texture that will used to reproduce inner noise suppressor cloth. The japanese version is full of these. Fixed with lots of CA glue!

umh.. windows also glued in a different order

Some test fitting

Hobby boss missed another important detail common to the versions, four air intakes on the front of rotor basement

That's all for now , next time live updates :D

PS

for who wants to build an 1/72 KV-107 withouth trhow down too many saints.. just search for the fujimi kit Angel

Thanks some nice conversion work there Bsyamato, lots of wiring and great idea on the rubber table cloth.

PS: I forgot about the pink chopper on Riptide, I think they called it the 'Screaming Mimi' or something like that- another interesting idea for a chopper build!

wow. i think i will look for the receipt and return my CH-46. anyway mine will be vanilla USMC though i did find a camo pattern and i looked at the back of an old mouse pad and it has a similar sound proofing look. i do have an MH-47 and i have to cut out the lower sides in order to fit the long range tanks. speaking of movies and tv, watched BLUE THUNDER yesterday.

bsyamato, great start on another chopper.  Really busy wiring there, and an excellent find to replicate the interior material.

------------------------------------

Can't believe a month has passed since my last update.  Figured I'd be finished by now, but only have made it to the primer stage.

I'll let the photographs do the talking, but you will notice the build is peppered with the sculpting putty known as Green Stuff.  Used it everywhere, from seams to fixing details and even scratch building.

regards,

Jack

Looks terrific Jack! Now that's a pound of putty...

Sorry, I haven't been more active, I've been under the weather and haven't gotten much of anything done period.

Hey Jack, not sure what plane that is, but I'm guessing it is a trainer of some type?  Good progress so far, is that a limited run kit?

Bsyamato - great effort on your CH-46 conversion!!  you must be crazy to put all those gauge backs and wires on each instrument...Wow!! I agree with you on the troop seats in the main cargo area....that's pretty poor representation of the tube frames and mesh seats.....It wouldn't be impossible to fix them but it would be very tedious.  But if anyone is up for the challenge, it would be you!!

Coming back through Tennessee from Alabama, I happened upon a HobbyTown USA in Knoxville and happened upon some choice kits on sale for 75% off!!! I about passed out thinking that it was too good to be true.  Among the scores were two Japanese subjects: a Dragon 1/35th scale Type 95 light tank "Ha-Go" (Late Production) and a Hasegawa 1/48th scale Nakajima Ki43-III Hayabusa (Oscar). Both retail at $50 or more and I got them both for around $10 to $13 apiece.!!!!  I ended up walking out with a total of about $400 worth of kits for $106!!!

Thank you Cliff and Dave.

Good stuff on the shopping spree, those prices can't be beat even on a black friday event.

Yes, this is a resin model, so I'd consider it falls under the short run category.   The Nakajima A4N1 was an interwar biplane specifically ordered for carrier use, and would be the last biplane design.   It's successor being the Claude, which in turn would be replaced by the Zero.   In 1941, it still could be found serving on 2nd rate carriers, and would also continue in the training role.

regards,

Jack

Hey Dave, good to hear from you and congrats on a great deal there! They're out there if you know where to find them or stumble upon them! The Hasegawa Ki-43 is a great little kit, simple but nicely detailed with great fit and no issues. I've got two of the Finemolds Type 95s but haven't picked up the newer Dragon kit yet. Sounds like a winner though.

Jack, I haven't seen any records of such but I'm wondering if any ended up used as kamikaze attackers since by the end of the war lots of older types that would have a hard time surviving in a combat situation were being thrown out on one-way missions.

Very likely on the kamikaze mission.  The few entries I've read about the A4N1 on net do mention this fact, but no numbers, dates or successes provided.

Hey Jack,

Thanks for the info.  I was curious because the plane resembles a bi-wing float plane trainer called the "Dave" manufactured by Kawashini (sp?) or something like that. My great uncle was killed on the deck of the USS Morrison, DD 560, by a similar aircraft.  It skimmed along the water, below radar and attacked the rear of the ship near my great uncle Gil's AA machinegun mount.  I'm still trying to locate a kit of that plane.....

Thanks Jack, I figured as much. I'd read that the Japanese were even fitting up trainers with bombs to hit the Allied invasion fleet that never came.

BTW the Japanese movie 'The Eternal Zero' (awesome movie!!!) has a great scene of two of the major characters in  Zero model 51s escorting kamikaze Zero model 21s though a swarm of Hellcats into the USN fleet.

Yeah Cliff, I really lucked out on making that pit stop in Knoxville!  I had heard that the Hasegawa kits are pretty good and this one looks really sweet.  I may actually build it for this GB, right after I complete my 'hangar queen' Val!!! Embarrassed

Hey Dave, seems I missed your next to late post there. That sucks about your great uncle, one of my uncles served on a LST but was lucky to make it though the war.

I had to look it up but 'Dave' corresponds to a Nakajima E8N. Hasegawa seems to have a kit available in 1/48th- link here to HLJ.

I'm intending to run a Japanese GB V so if you want you can aways enter in that one. I'm thinking of taking a break after number 5 though!

Dave, np about the info.  Sorry to read what happened to your great uncle, but building  the Nakajima E8N would be a fine tribute to his memory.  Cliff has you set up nicely with the link to the Hasegawa kit.  Just recently released, new tool and all, looks to be the only game in town at 1/48 scale.

bsyamato, thanks kindly.

Had a little mishap during the primer stage.  While spraying the model, it slipped off the wooden dowl I had inserted at the front to act as a hand hold .  The fall wasn't even a foot, but it was enough of an impact to knock the top wing off.  Took this as I sign to keep painting unattached.

Did two coats of Tamiya surface primer, followed by three with Alcad II gloss black base - as suggested for metallic finishes.  Each of these coats was followed with some further putty and sanding, and I was still getting some stubborn seams and dimples.

So instead of going back with pure primer, I mixed in a little Alcad's black, and this is what you see in this update photo.  Hopeful one last sanding, another gloss black coat and then to the metallic colours.

regards,

Jack

Ouch that blows Jack, glad to hear though she didn't fall any further though!

Sounds really cool, looking forward to seeing her all painted up. I find short run kits enough problems to get a smooth finish without them having to be metallic perfect.

Sorry for the mishap Jack, but i'm sure you will get the biplane better than before :)

Unfreezed the Peggy and the Kate this weekend :)

I mixed up a japanese light grey green (i use a 147 grey with a small percentage of 78 interior green humbrol) and three layers done between two days. Also , as the grey mix dry rapidly i mixed an homemade kakhi color for upper surfaces, first strike lightly then i corrected the mix (a total of 5/6 colors used starting from 155 oluive drab Tongue Tied ) and the mixture is good from last saturnday and works again!!

some paint step:

First grey layer (withouth primer..)

first kakhi layer before correction (few minutes after the grey!)

The living humbrol mix!

and after third grey layer i masked for finish camo and going for layers on layers of kakhi till yesterday .. about four at the end

And actual state, last night Sleep

that's all for the Peggy...

Some day ago i received four vacuformed kate canopy from Falcon clear and rapidly removed my attempt about the homemade opened canopy in seven pieces ..

heres a picture before remove

And the good new one

A new radio antenna needed..the other gone during canopy works Crying

Using a sort of blue tac for help i cut the last rear section at tleast to show the mounted mg (i need to scratch it again..)

and start to paint inner frames and other pieces ..

Using the same grey of peggy , few drops of black to dark it and drybrushed kate belly on panel lines, highlights not yet done. Also an amout of kakhi as oil ...

That's all for now :) at the next!
