Hello all! I haven't had a lot of progress to show lately, as it's been hard to find time. The weather changed to spring suddenly forcing an early clean up of the yard and patio.Also dealing with the witch has also taken its toll.

I have managed to pick a bit at the A-10, finishing decals, pin washes, and mounting pylons underneath. These also got small decals and some wash in panel lines.

Hi Jim,

It is trying to warm up here.  But winter will not let go.  Today is supposed to be really cold.  It is only 29 degrees now with the expected high for today only reaching 33 degrees.  Then tonight it is supposed to get down to 16 degrees.  Tomorrow is not much better with a high of only 36 degrees.  But next week is supposed to get warmer with a high of 60 degrees starting on Tuesday.

Your A-10 is looking great!  The detail is really popping!  Excellent work as always Jim!

Jim, nice work there on all those tiny decals, they must be teeny in 1/72nd and the wash looks really good.

I had a slight mishap last night. I was working on the Indy's superstructure with all the associated PE on my usual TV tray workbench and my dog got tangled in the lamps extension cord. Well he started to panic and the TV tray, with everything on it, goes flying halfway across the room. My wife and I got down with a a flashlight and started looking for all the pieces. I was convinced that all the rails and radars I had so painstakingly built last night and the night before were destroyed. After locating all but one small piece of railing (which can be replaced from my generic USN railing PE set), I was able to repair the one piece that broke off. Who says CA is too brittle to hold?

Well needless to say, after repairing the broken assembly, I put the whole thing away for the night.

Sorry to hear about the potential disaster, glad to know that it turned out for the better!

Gee, you had me scared there Steve. Sorry about the accident but glad it turned out as only a minor disaster.

Man, what a heart stopper! Glad everything turned out well. I'm always pleased when I actually build something that is able to survive something like this. The fact that you had only one thing to fix is a testament to your skills and abilities.

Yeah, I just sat there and starred at the carnage and didn't say anything. My dog, stood there and looked at his devastation, and seeming to sense something had just gone horribly wrong, took off for the bedroom. My wife asked what happened, and all I could say way "all that work has just been destroyed" All I could see was the TV tray about 4 feet from me, lamp, which detached itself from its clamp during the table's journey, with it's bulb now nonfunctional, and the parts strewn all along the path of destruction. The plastic cutting board upon which I cut the PE pieces off was lying on top of my recent work. I had no words.

Yeah, cats and dogs have that 7th sense that they are on the verge of dying and make haste at mach 4 to leave the area.

Glad it wasn't any worse.

What a heart stopping moment!  I can only imagine the emotions you were feeling when that happened.  Holy cow.  I know you have been spending a lot of time putting all of that together.

I am really happy for you though that it was not as bad as it could have been.

I made a little progress on my Zero.  I masked off the photo etch seat belts to prepare for painting.

Now I have to spray the paint.

I repainted the seat and also remembered this time to paint the inside of the fuselage where the cockpit goes!

Now I will wait a day for the paint to dry and then I am ready to start gluing the cockpit together!

I also did a bit of research on what the A-10 might carry, thinking to not to load it up with MER's filled with iron bombs, Maverick missiles, and large LGB's, I dug into the assortment of Hasegawa and Testors weapons set and came up with this load:

There is a Sidewinder paired up with a data pod, a pair of rocket pods, cluster bombs, a couple of smaller LGB's and an ECM pod. This is similar to several photos of A-10's I found on the net.

There is no such thing as a "typical" load for the A-10 and it was dependent on the mission. They also would usually hunt in pairs or packs, and each plane could be carrying a different load. So this gives me license to put what I want on it, within reason. and besides: it's my build! 

Maybe a plane marked for a weapons school would not carry a load like this, but still: it's my build! Who says I have to be accurate!

My thought was that I've got every Hasegawa weapons set made and why don't I do something a bit different on mine. I've got enough weapons that I could take out a small 1:72 scale styrene country!

Great work once again from the master of 1/72 scale!  That wash turned out fantastic, it really makes the detail pop!     

And I agree with you on the weapons selection.  Your build, make it the way you want!!

Very impressive!!  Poor guy had to deal with a lot of wind.  I bet it is fun to fly.

Sorry guys for no more progress on the Hellcat but I spilled water on part of the decal sheet and decided just to order another set from Eduard and had to wait for them to get here from the Czech Republic. Anyway they came yesterday.

And since I was already paying for shipping and handling I went ahead and ordered the nightfighter Hellcat I've had my eye on since the nightfighter episode of 'Dogfights'. Yeah, that's why I can't seem to get ahead since I buy stuff way faster than I build. Anyway, super nice kit, comes with a resin part for the radome on the starboard wing.

I once lost a set of decals for an SR-71 Blackbird by spilling paint thinner on them! An ironic thing was that I ran across a Superscale set in the clearance bin at the LHS just a few weeks latter. Sadly, I never have finished that one....

And about getting ahead? I have the same problem - I just received this today:

Yikes, guess I should be happy it wasn't paint thinner here! They glued to the sheet when they got wet, I pried a few off and used them but figured it would be safer to order another sheet.

Well, sorry it's been a little while since my last post, but I have been very busy with Spring yard work and other chores.

Anyway, here is an update. I completed the forward superstructure, and will be moving on to the aft.

I will be drilling out the portholes at some point.

Working on 1/72 scale aircraft is mind boggling enough for me! But this? I admire your skills and unbelievable patience! Looks awesome!

Yeah, wow that's outstanding Steve! I think I've said before I'm so fumble fingered when doing something like this I end up knocking off two pieces of PE for every one I add.

Panzer IV looks great Nomad; always loved the way it looked with the "schürzen".

I am looking forward to starting my project which is still to be determined but will definitely be something with wings. As many here know I recently moved for my new job and things are anything but "normal". That being said, I look forward to getting back to the bench and undertake another labor of love. Again, great tank Nomad and best of luck to all my GB friends with their respective builds.

Hey Jim, I know I'm late to the party but noticed the tail code on your WartHog. I was stationed at Nellis back in the day and it made me smile. The A-10's and F-15's had WA and the F-16's wore NA codes at that time. The WA codes we called Western Airlines; not sure about a nickname for NA but I suspect they had one for them as well. Just a little trivia for you. BTW, looking great as always friend!
