Boeing Build

I will be on vacation the end of this week July 4-11. I will be checking in with my phone during my time away. CodyJ will be available if I don't respond.

I also have some happy news, We have accepted an offer on our house and will be moving (assuming everything goes through fine) to a new home at the end of July. I will be available on the forum during that time, however I will need to pack up my builds for a week or two . I should be back up and running the first part of August. I am going to try to finish the builds I have in process, but won't be starting new any until then.

Steve, now I am well down on my GB commitments, can you add me to the list. Put me down for a 1/72nd hasegawa MV-22 Osprey. All going well, I should be able to start it in November some time, but I will try to keep following before then.

Got some updates on my 737.  Had some time over the weekend.

Cut out the flaps and leading edges to give some drama to the kit.

Recreated the leading edges in the hopes I would be able to save the originals and thin them down using Dremel.   Sadly, this was not to be.  Managed to break the original slats in the process and I was forced to make an entirely new set.

The leading edges will be cut out later.

Got the winglets in and mounted. I have some Blending and filling and more blending to do on the winglets to get them seamless.. The seam work on the fuselage halves are done, I just have to do some small sanding on the windows to blend them in.

Looking good Allan and BOneFixer!  The 767 winglets look aftermarket due to the color diff - if so, who makes them?

My 727 build is stalled due to work and other stuff... hopefully I can work on it tonight.

OK guys, I'm back home from vacation and back on the forum as usual. My wife and I are moving at the end of July, so I have packed up all the stash (thank goodness it still relatively small) and builds until the first part of Aug.

Nice thing is, I'll actually have my workbench back. I have been working on a TV tray for 3 years. At least I've learned space management, but that's not going to matter. once I start spreading out it will be a mess again.

Good luck with the move MC. I know when I was in the air force I must have moved atleast 10 times. That was one of the reasons I fell out scale modeling besides having  time. Every time I had to move I would lose 1 or 2 built up kits.

I'm being very careful with my builds and will be moving them personally. The new house is 3 miles away, so that's not too bad. Problem is, our closing date for our house is the 30th and the closing date for the house we are moving into is the 31st. Everything's got to go to storage for at least 1 day.

Nice thing about moving though, you can keep everything thinned out. We visited my brother-in-law during our vacation, and he's been where he is for the last 20 years. He has so much stuff packed into corners and his huge shop, that it would take a year to straighten everything out if he were to move. I am moving with the thought in mind that if something were to happen to me, what would my wife and or children do with such and such item. If they would get rid of it, and I don't plan on using it in the foreseeable future, it's outta here. I have to be careful though, I did that with some hobby items in the past, and I wish I hadn't.

Nice work on those airliners guys, its nice to see builds like these which we don't see that often.

Got the paint laid down, now the decaling begins ! For those wondering where I got the winglets from, I got them from contrails models website. They have winglets for most commercial aircraft including the new scimitar winlets on the 737's.

Did I mention I hate spraying gloss white? Or yellow for that matter. Never work's out well.

Nice Gloss white there.  I have to admit I haven't fooled much with gloss paint finishes of any kind so I can't really see the troubleshooting that comes with it.  But seeing as it's quite pretty, I can see how it'd be easy to make a mess of it.  =P

Thanks all,  spraying  gloss is not my strong suit,  but I have been lucky so far.  The darkergrey on the wings is actually MM titnanium buffing metalizer.  After buffing it I sealed it with a semigloss coat to give it that dark grayish metal look.  I think it worked pretty well.

Please include me in this GB, I would like to enter my Monogram 1:48 Visible B-17G "Flying Fortress" for the possibility of your GB upon your acceptance of my entry.  Please note that I currently am in the process of completing a Tamiya 1:32 Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero Model 21 "Zeke".  Once I've completed this project, I will dutifully start on the Visible B-17G GB.  

This build will include 5 PE sets by Eduard for all 5 compartments.  If this is acceptable, please let me know, if not, I definately will and can understand regarding the rules of qualifications.  Thank you for your time and patience.

I'm really looking forward to your build. The B-17, along with the Lancaster, HE 111 and Betty, are favorite bombers of mine. This will be the first time I've seen the viable B-17.

Oh lookie what I found while we were packing for our move. Several years ago my mom gave us kids things she was hanging onto just prior to her passing. Well I totally thought this was gone forever until I found it today.

Back in 1975 when I was just a stupid thing of 14, I wanted to be an Aeronautical Engineer or Airplane Designer as I called it then. I decided that Boeing needed a new airline so I just sat myself down and started designing one. I called it the 767, mainly because I thought they must be working on the 757 by now (next in line after 747) and I didn't want to step on anyone's toes.

Well I drew this thing on graph paper, for scale, and accompanied it with a description of my concept. This behemoth had 3 decks and 6 engines, and didn't take in account for weight or airport support for such a large aircraft. Remember, I was 14 and stupid.

My father, being proud of me and knowing full well this was ridiculous, dudeufugly granted my request to send it into Boeing for consideration. I waited and waited for the acceptance letter and imagined this monster flying all over the world.

Turns out I did get a response, and the person who sent me the original newsletter was very gracious, spared my feelings and stated that my design was taken under consideration. However, Boeing was going to go with a smaller version and that their design team was working on it at that very moment.

This is a copy of the original newsletter "Plane Talk"  from Wichita Boeing dated Sep 1975. The original was apparently lost, but Jack Wrecker of Wichita Boeing sent me a copy of the article three years later.

This is a letter I received in 1798 accompanying the above copy of the newsletter and the July 1978 "Plane Talk" newsletter, recounting my design and Boeing's new 767. Wow, 37 years ago.

You know, I never though of that. The fuse could be modified with 2 kit bashed 747's , but the wings and tail?   Maybe some of you guys would have some thoughts. I know that are some kit bash kings in here.

To my fellow Boeing GB forum members,

First of all, thank you for this opportunity in allowing me to partake in this Boeing GB.  I would have never been apart of this GB if it wasn't for an invitation from modelcrazy.  The majority of my threads are on the  aircraft area.  Per request, I will be posting this same build there as well as here!

Second, I'm not as competent as many of you are at modeling, so please forgive me ahead of time in any area you deem that needs to be corrected.  All comments and re-do's are welcomed.  Once again, thank you for this opportunity.

The model kit that I will enter into the Boeing GB will be a "Visible B-17G "Flying Fortress".  I have already purchased  five different eduard PE parts, so this should be interesting.  I will start this build as soon as I complete my Tamiya 1:32 Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero Model 21 "Zeke" ASAP!

Items are primed with Tamiya gray Liquid Laquer Primer G.

Here is a dry fit, I see no issues at this time.

I currently use a NEO Iwata Gravity feed and a Harbor Frieght Tools Siphon feed AB.  The AB DEPICTED HERE WAS MY VERY FIRST AB.  Just to see how it still does the job, I utilized it to prime the B-17G.  It did a really great job.

This is my very first B-17g Flying Fortress build as well as this being my first GB.  I hope I can meet and exceed GB forum members expectations.  I'll do everything to the best of my abilities.  Here is my PE sets, I'm still waiting for one more set to be delivered.  Once I'm done with my Tamiya 1:32 Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero Model 21 "Zeke" I'll diligently start the B-17G build.

Wow Toshi this will be pretty interesting to see. I have never actually seen one of these clear kits in person, or completed in that matter.

   As for my build the 767 is pretty much complete, I just have some light weathering to do and a final sealer coat. Pics to follow upon completion. Also MC can you put me down for a minicraft 1/144 777 as well. I am still waiting the kit to arrive. After building this 767 my interest in airliners has been re-sparked.
