Japanese Group Build VI

RULES

*Start Date January 1st, 2017

*End Date December 31st, 2017

*Japanese subjects which I'll define as operating under the Japanese flag, aka a captured P-40 flown by a Japanese pilot would be kosher

*Cross-overs are welcome

*Pre-started are fine as long as they're under 10-20% finished (light assembly)

*Any 'roll-over' subjects from Part V are welcome

*No cut-off date for entry, you can enter on Dec 30 if you can build the model in a day

And most important have fun guys and gals!

Hi Cliff, glad to see another one of these will be run for next year.   Hopeful this time around I can get something off the bench in 2017.

-----------------

Found something festive to share for this time of the year, with Japanese flavour:

Company is called Brick Works, and these are 1/20 resin figs.

regards,

Jack

Bruce: Sure no problem at all! And frankly I guess it's bending the rules a little but if it's ok by Bish you're welcome to finish your Finemolds Type 4 medium tank here. If he comes after you with a light saber you're on your own man. Wink

Steve: Yeah, from the photos you posted a week ago... WHOA! That looks like an amazing kit, I'd post the GB just to see you build that!

Jack: It's funny, I saw those on HLJ the other day and thought those are cool but I don't need any pre-painted action figure type stuff. I went back and noticed yes they are models that you get to paint yourself. Pretty darn cool! I've got a bunch of Christmas presents I bought for myself pre-ordered from HLJ, I may just have to add one of those to my list. Thanks for the head's up!!! YesHeart

Thanks, Cliff! And thanks for allowing me to add the Type 4, but I will respect Bish's wishes and not cross over. Although, I'll post pictures of the completed Type 4 as honorable mention. How's that sound?

Bruce: Sure! Also I forgot Bish said he'd be running his until everyone gets done.

Rob: Sounds great! I'd love to see that. It's in 1/76th isn't it?

Yes, small kit I picked up ages ago. With more modern 1/72 scale Dragon IJA kits, it's not worth getting rid of.

I'm definitely in Cliff. Let's call it the Tamiya 1/16 Japanese pilot until I change my mind.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Here are the innards of the Takao. I will be starting this on the 1st hopefully. This is a very extensive kit and with the PE, oh brother what did I get myself into? Anyway, I will be putting her in a seascape, not calm but not too rough. I envision her bow crashing through a swell and some spray.

The PE set with its instructions are also shown

Wayne: Cool, is that the 1/35th Trumpeter JGSDF Type 87 Recon Armoured Car kit from last year?

John: Very cool, that's a really good kit and nice to see your version comes with the Express Masks too. Not much of a canopy on this one but still it's a lot easier.

I've been working on the Kikka when I have wait time on the Airfix Meteor F.8 I'm also building now.  I was hoping that I would get away from dark cockpits, but it seems IJN Green is the color for this one.  Pretty dark.  I checked some photos of the one at the Smithsonian and that is the right color, not the lighter Nakajima cockpit color.  Everything has fit well in the cockpit, the only issue I had was the decal for the instrument panel that took a long time to release from the backing paper, and then broke in several pieces.  I mostly got things in place.  Microsol did the rest, and as usual little of it will be visible.  Then I thought I would mask up the canopy, and found that the Eduard masks just wouldn't stick.  They also were not fitting very well, and I'm wondering if the Eduard masks have a shelf life.  It does look like they have shrunk up some.  I scanned the sheet, redrew it, and cut new masks with a Silhouette vinyl cutter I bought recently, which worked fine except that some panels were a little small.   I fixed that with a few strategic applications of Tamiya tape.

I have assembled the fuselage halves and the wings and done the seam work.  The fuselage halves did not line up as well as the typical Hasegawa kit, but all the seam demons have been quelled at this point ( I think).  All the nacelle parts have been painted and are ready for assembly.
