Shelf of Doom GB II - 2018

Thanks guys. Rob I don't know which Tamiya kit it was. I salvaged it from my shoebox of forgotten models. It has periscope view ports around the gunners hatch and it had armor around the hatch as well but it is missing. I'm scratching some homemade armor.  I really appreciate the parts offer. I am just going to make due with what I have. It's a very very well used M113 that fell into the hands of Hezbollah. I will paint the inside of the hatch the green you called out. I appreciate it. 

Too Late to join?  I have one thats been sitting for years.  It's an ancient 1/48 ESCI KFIR I inteded to do in VMFT-401 Aggressor markings.  Somefit issues, but it is a unique addition to my aggressor collection.

preshaded the f4f and painted with ak interative int blue had some trouble with the paint but  I got though it

I'm not sure what issues you had with the paint, but, your F4F doesn't show you did. Nice recovery. You can just see some of the pre-shade, looks perfect.

I'm looking to get a little more progress on the Type 4 this weekend. I did glosss coat and added the decals, all five of them. Then I tried a grey-brown filter. But, I don't like how it interacted with the future gloss coat. My first time trying Wilder products. I'll post pictures later today.

Made a re-start on kne a few days back. This is the kit, which as i mentioned earlier, i had finished years ago, 2009, but just hadn't completed the dio.

And after this, along with a few otehrs, took a dive off a shelf, this is what i was faced with.

After several nights work, it was all back together. I am pretty sure it was all there, at least there is nothing obvious thats missing. And i do still have the instructions, so that helped.

And so i could focus oin the figures and base. This was always going to be a simple dio based on a photo of the single protoype that this kit represents. At the time i built the kit, i had not long been back in the hobby and was focusing on the basics and getting to grips with new ideas in weathering.

So, just 2 figures, on the left a Dragon plastic figure and the right a Verlinden resin one.

Thats all at the minute. I am hoping to get this done by the end of the month so just a quicker re-build.

It's intresting when one goes back to their earler builds and see how far their skills have improved. I look back at my earler stuff, even the builds from 3 to 4 years ago, and am amazied how far I've come.

That should be a nice looking dio.

Thats one reason why i wanted to put these older builds back together and finish them off. Its nice to se how i have progressed. that and if i didn't, i would feel the need to re-buy the kits and do them again. And i think i have enought o do already

I'm still painting and weathering. I made the arabic script by printing it out and cutting it out with a Tamiya knife. Making a stencil. Love that knife. Making some scratch sand bags with super sculpy. Got to pop those suckers in the oven. 

 

That photo really shows of the weathering well Griffin. THe arabic script looks good, do you know what it says ? This build is really appealing to me.

Bish, that's come together nicely, there wasn't much left after it bought the farm. I'll be glad to see the layout once you have it ready.

My Airbus appears to have landed back on that Shelf again, I'd better taxi it over to the workbench again !

I have the engine in place . and painted the bottom with ak interactive light gray . still haveing problems with the paint drying up the airbrush tried flow improver, thinning decreased air to 15psi it seems when I stop and start spraying the tip dries up 

Tony the Aribic script says something totally benign. I think I translated something like "Have a nice day, man". Lol. I didn't try very hard. 

Nick that wildcat is looking good. The subtle shading and panel lines look top notch.

Nick, I agree with Griffin, the shading on the Wildcat looks great.

Griffin, I'm not sure I would be having a nice day if that thing showed up in the neighbourhood.

I ordered some Tiger Airways decals for my A320, as I flew on one of their A320's at Easter. I'm hoping they arrive soon so that I can proceed with it.

When I saw the title to this GB I knew it was destiny to pull this old kit off the shelf and make it something special. I would like to join the build with this 1:24 AMT 1957 Chevy Bel Air Coca Cola kit. I bought this one at a yard sale for $5 and knew it would be trouble right away as I noticed the body had been painted prior to purchase. Upon further inspection for the GB it appears it was painted with some very thick paint and was sanded and damaged in multiple areas (see photo 4). Other than that it appers untouched. I have big plans for this one and I promise not to go with the color scheme and Coke decals on th kit cover! I will check back with some progess pics and idea of colors etc soon.

This one did make it into service, though in limited numbers. Less than 50 were built.

It deserves to be built, I'm glad you've got plans for it. Welcome aboard. It's also our first car in this GB, although I've got a couple that I might get to later on.

Tony, maybe they just could not decide which way round it should be so playted it safe.

I forgot to add my very old ESCI Mirage IIIc,  it had been sitting around for 20 years!  half painted,   now I re-painted it and got a resin ejection seat for it,  getting ready to attach the pain-in-the-butt  landing gear.

And got some paint on the egg F-16, mostly gray's so you won't notice much until I get some of the dark shades on.

The title of this GB is so appropriate. I should of let sleeping dogs lie 1st the paint,2nd the tamiya decals are FUBR!!! the rudder flags broke in a millon little pieces along with one roundel. 3rd no back up set of decals with all the sets I have nooo wildcats. I dug in my decal box with super scale us roundels it not accurate but I try

Nick the photo above was before I started sanding. I did start the process last night and discovered it has an extremely thick coat of white followed by a purple, and finally a gold. I spent about an hour wet sanding and it is coming along ok. The detail in the rear where it says Bel Air is destroyed so I am going with some sort of custom hot rod (in my mind). I need to strip the chrome now as well and am studying up on recipes for that now.

I think that Wildcat looks really good. I want to learn to shade like that for sure.

I havent even started on my "mess" yet..... life just won't leave me alone.

I'm getting close to finishing my Hezbollah M113 project. I need to add a few things and weather the sandbags and tracks. I also want to add a figure. I have an Evolution miniatures Arab fighter I want to put together and paint and make a dio with an old base I made a few years ago. First Evolution miniature I've bought. I think they are from Vietnam. I shrank a picture on paint to make the holy man poster.

The 113 looks great, and that picture of the holy man you added is fantastic. I really like how this build is turning out.
