Well I was up late last night trying to finish the tracks. The right side were OK, but the left side had some flash and were a problem to put together. I got them together but I have to honestly say that I wouldn't recommentd Riich tracks. For my next tank I'll make sure I'll go back to MK or AFV Club. One of these days I'll try Fruil. Well now unto the next part of the build.

First let me say thank you to Gamera, Rambo and KC for your words of encouragement. I have some more WIP pics. The lower hull is basically done. The tracks and wheels were painted with acrylics, but weathered with oils and pigments. I'll tweak things as I go along. The upper hull has seen its first weathering process and the tools and some attachments have been painted. I checked the fit for the schurzen skirts but I'm not going to put them on since I'm using ostketten tracks they will rub against the inside of the skirts. I'm debating of putting a rack of jerricans on the back deck. So far I'm happy with how this Stug is coming along. As soon as its finished I'll start on the Alpine figures. I've also decided to put it on a base with an Eastern Front look to the groundwork. Wish me luck!
Nice work there Tiger. Though the tracks do lookquite red, not sure if thats meant to be rust or mud. Could do with some bare metal on the cleats on the outer face of the tracks.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments. Yes the tracks look a little reddish, due to the Burnt Sienna pigment. Like I said I will tweak things as I go along. I was going for rust and soil. So I will hit it with the bare metal paint to downplay the reddish look. Thanks again for the critique.

I pulled out the tracks for my Meng Leopard II and cleaned up links while watching TV. I'm actually kinda shocked at how well they went. A few swipes with a sanding stick and then they fit into a jig provided by Meng and they snap together without cement. Gives you perfect workable tracks! I'll just have to be careful painting them not the gum up the links so they'll fit over the running gear properly.
I'd prefer 'rubber band' type tracks here since most of them are covered by the skirts but they're probably the most pain free link tracks I've ever assembled.

Instead of burnt sienna, i tend to use a raw umber wash, tend to give a nice ground in dirt look. Deffinetly want to avoid the rusty look, dry dry brushing and maybe darker brown pigments at the end will set those off a treat.
Hey G, I'm glad your tracks went together well. I love workable tracks, I don't mind the extra work for the right look. I don't know if I'll ever go back to rubber band tracks, but if they are sitting on return rollers, then I might use them, but they better have good relief.
Well here it is. My StuG III ausf G is finished. I will add the aerials later and then the Alpine figures so I can put it in a small vignette. I weathered the lower hull and wheels with pigments and I used oils, acrylics and pastels for the upper hull. The markings are from Verlinden and Archer Dry Transfers. I'm very happy with the way it turned out. Believe it or not this is my first assault gun. I usually stayed with tanks. I hope you all like it.

Hey guys, thanks for the kudos. Dutch, I'm torn between the 1st & 6th pic. Let's go for the 6th pic for that page. This was fun and I'm looking to other GB's. But I do have some personal projects that I want to get started on.
A fine looking StuG there, I like the tracks on her and the chip effect on the front looks really good. This group build have renewed my interest in armor.

Just have to find a good set of zimmerit for it. Any comments about tamiya's zimmerit set? It's one of tamiya's newer 1/48. Plastic hull with weights.

I got a friend the same kit along with the zimmerit stickers. I initially scoffed at the stickers, but for the smaller scale, it looks like it will work.
It is way too soft and subtle for 1/35 scale.

nicely done. i use oil washes and pastels a lot. my new go-to track paint is Tamiya burnt iron. like the jerry can rack too.

Here's an update on the OOB Monogram Pz.IV Still have some work to do on her and the commander which is in work. As for the kit, it's no Tamiya or Dragon but it's wetting my whistle to get back into the armor side of the house.

Just for future referance, the inside of the hatch should be the same coour as the base colour used outside, in this case Dark Yellow.

That's one of the things I will be touching up. The fit on this kit didn't go together well, not like the first time I built one when it first came out. Oh, the rubber tracks were easy, that thought will change when I get to the Meng kit after the Leopard is done.

Yes, but I want to experiment with storebought zimmerit. 1/48 is too small for me to work with.
