I've been searching for a model so i can contribute...

Is most everything star wars snap fit and painted?

I'd rather not do a monster like the millennium falcon, star destroyer, or death star.  But i still want to glue and paint.

T e d

Post script: i like all the movies... hey, they're star wars!  But i have to admit jar jar, the flying nun, and the slapstick in the last jedi tests my patience.

I've got the Bandai 1/72nd X and A-wings and they're fantastic kits. I've heard really good stuff about their Y-wing and TiEs as well. I don't think you can go wrong with one of them.

They're snap fit but the detail is excellent. Some parts are molded in colour but as usual they look much better painted.

I've built the 1/144 Death Star Attach Set. It is touted as being a snap fit kit, however, it benefited from being glued and painted. And I will say the engineering that I have seen on the Bandai kits, that I have built, is out of this world. I have several of the 1/12 kits, and I will get more of the vehicle kits too.

Oy vey! I can't believe I'm giving advice to a rebel scum! LOL! Big Smile

I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll pick, and as you can see, we have a lot fun with this GB.

I don't get upset about any of the movies. I don't spend much money watching them since I usually wait until they come out on Netflix. Ever since ep VI with the Ewoks I figured they were targeted toward kids and not us old guys who actually saw ep IV in the theaters.

It's Hollywood, nothing they do surprises me or upsets me anymore. Actors and politicians are at the bottom of my respect list, in fact I believe I respect politicians slightly more.

Regardless, Bish thank you for hosting this cool GB. The subjects are awesome.

Bandai kits by consensus are the best kits currently on detail and fit even though they are snap fit. However if you are looking for a glue kit the older finemolds kits are quite good. Finemolds had lost the SW license  so they are not being made right now, so eBay and those prices are one choice. On the bright side Revel did repop some of their kits which might be available for purchase. I do not know if Revell is still doing that as they now have an agreement with Bandai to sell Bandai kits in the European market.

Forgive me Lord Bish, but the Force is strong in my little one....he....he made me do it!

This one doesn't count...just thought it the best place to post it.  Embarrassed

FYI...this kit only came with stickers.  Others have come with both sticker and decal sheets.

Bish, if you'll accept me and these two little droids, I think I'd like to join your little band of fellow Star Wars fans. These little guys showed up at the post office today. Upon opening the box I found three bags of sprues, which I thought was quite a lot for two little droids. In typical Bandai fashion, sprues were different colors with one having three different colors on one sprue. I've seen two on one sprue before but not three. Here's a few pics for your viewing pleasure.

No doubt!  And they are supposed to be coming out with a total of something like 10 droid kits!  And each kit (so far) has come with "accessories" for other droid kits.  The two I have had  accessories for the R2-D2 kits.

I have this same kit too. (Please don't tell the Emporer Embarrassed). I just haven't gotten to build them yet. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress during this GB!

Edit: I just realized, I don't have this kit, I have the R2-D2 and BB-8 kit. Either way, I'm looking foward to seeing how these two droids go together for you.

I see Bandai now has a 1/2 scale BB-8 kit, that I almost pulled the trigger on. If I can find (or maybe home build a lighting kit) I may not be able to resist.

Cary: Looks cool! I love how Bandai molds their stuff in colour like that - sometimes with multiple colours on one sprue. I always paint my stuff anyway but still it's a cool technique.

Bruce: A guy I follow on YouTube was joking about buying a R/C BB-8 and his daughter keeps removing the head and tossing it around like a soccer/football ball...

I thought the BB-8 came with lights or at least had a lighting kit. Then again I thought the same thing about the PG Falcon kit, I was wrong.

NucMed,

From what I've seen online, the kit does have one LED with it. Bandai does make, what looks generic: Here, a LED lighting kit. So far, I have not seen any lighting kits specific to the 1/2 BB-8 kit in the after market.

I've been away from the hobby for far too long. I'd like to jump in and actually finish a build group build.

Please put me down for the R2-D2 (Rocket Booster ver). I've always wanted to have a little R2 of my own :)

Eagle90, Bruce, Gamera, as you say, this is a great little kit. I’ve built several of them so I’m familiar with their great fit and detail and look forward to building these little guys.

The instructions have you build the main bodies of the bots at the same time. Basically the only difference in the two are some colored tidbits on each one and their ‘heads’. The bodies go together quite nicely, with the fit that we’ve come to expect from Bandai. And this is where I left off for the day.
